Sales people know sales only. Never take a sales persons word on how anything works. Mechanics/engineers know how things work. When I got my new truck I spent a lot of time larnin the new stuff and then I found this web site to learn more, especially from others mistakes and confusion.

Actually spent time reading some parts in the manual that came with it.. learned a lot..

Is there an easy way to keep the gear select display illuminated all the time? Other than hit the + or - every so often?

In D, yes--the gear will be displayed continuously once you hit "+" once. In S, no--there is no way to see what gear you're in unless you're in full manual override. I consider it a bug (there's no reason not to just leave the gear indicator up all the time if you're in S, people who want to play in S probably largely overlap those who want to know what gear they're in) but there's zero chance it will change in this generation of truck.

I only used the sales person at the dealer to facilitate the purchase. I had researched and decided what I wanted, then searched until I found it; in transit to a dealer 2 hours away from me. By the time the truck was delivered I had read the owners manual and scoured the internet (R5G). When getting the walk through with the sales person, it was obvious I knew much more about the truck than he did.

My son works at a large Toyota dealer. He is a car enthusiast, an affliction inherited from me. When I retired, I pondered whether selling cars would be a good use of my time, combining something that I love with a paycheck. He didn't even hesitate, "Dad, car sales people don't know much, if anything, about cars. They know about selling. Nothing that you know about cars and how they work will help. You'll hate it." I walked away and never looked back.

Luckily my trucks radio is broken and refuses to play any county songs. ??
1 of the many gripes about my frontier was the radio was stuck on 99.5 WGAR Cleveland's Country. the tuner buttons never worked

I haven't done it yet, but I think there's a setting in Forscan to enable it all the time

Is the gear indicator on the right / entertainment screen new as part of a software update, is it part of something I didn’t know to activate, or am I just oblivious 2400 miles in?

And in any case, what’s your country song?

I use mine when driving in the mountains. The only thing better would be paddle shifters.
