Livernois Towing Tune, who's running it?

It is posted here somewhere. Don't remember where or the exact numbers. I'll try to find the photo I took of the print out when I get a chance. There was not much difference between the Livernois and Ford tunes on the horsepower. I ultimately went with the Ford tune since my transmission behaves better running that one.

Have you done any towing with the Ford tune?

I seem to recall that it was updated to allow for towing but I don't think I've seen any reviews of how well the FPP tows.

Tune is fine for towing but I have not towed anything.

The article doesn't specifically state that this was done using the Tow tune, but I'm thinking it probably was since they focused on the towing improvement.

And honestly, the HP numbers seemed a little low for the Performance tune anyway at roughly 314HP and 408TQ.

Looks like the tow tune has a much flatter curve for HP and TQ than the Performance tune (~360HP and 447TQ)

My Livernois is still sitting in the box on the shelf and I swore I'd never install it again. This kinda makes me want to load up the Tow tune.

The tuner comes with 5 separate tunes and nowhere in the article does it specifically state that they used the Tow tune. They actually said this:

Our test would involve comparing the stock tune on 87 octane to the Livernois performance tune on 93 octane.

And this:

While Livernois does offer tuning for 87-89 octane fuel, we elected to go for max performance, which required a higher grade octane gasoline, since that was how we would see the most improvement.

which sounds like they used the Performance tune, but they continuously mention towing so I guessed that they actually used the Tow tune.

I know I'm being picky with words but after 25 years in IT little details can mean the difference between works great and totally broken, so I am a bit detail oriented. My wife has a different word for it ?

As to why it's on the shelf, my Livernois tuner has bricked my truck more times than I can count.

I removed it and boxed it back up after it took me a while to recover the truck the last time, fearing that it may get to where it can't be recovered without a trip to the dealer ($$$$).

Yes I'm aware I have one. You can't tow with a non-tow tune with them. Ahhh there's a trailer all over the article. Even Google Livernois tow tune. This article pops up. The dyno is done with the tow tune. Why would they have it about towing and use a performance tune ????

That sucks. I've flashed mine like 20 times no issues. They're always available on fb messenger. They actually adjusted my non tow drive mode (D) to the same shift pattern without the engine braking. Now it does not lug and wanna be in the highest gear available all the time. I love they can adjust it how you want it free of charge.

You're not being picky and you're right. Nowhere in that article does it state they used the tow tune. It only says they used the 87-89 & the high octane performance tune.

It looks like they did their towing test right after the dyno for the performance tune still having the performance tune flashed. Just because it shows multiple pictures of a Ranger towing doesn't mean they used the tow tune. He was just commenting on how much better it pulled with the trailer after installing the Livernois tune compared to a stock Ranger.

How do you know this? You're assuming too then right? Yeah the article has a trailer mentioned often but it's not about towing. Wow. Well I asked we'll see. Those are some LOW performance tune numbers then.

Did Livernois even have a tow specific tune then?

I was thinking that when they first released the tuner that there was no specific tune for towing. If that was the case it would make sense that the other tunes were more conservative.

Of course, that's from my memory banks which are apparently based on Chinese TLC NAND with a limited number of read/writes.

I know that the FPP tune initially was not meant for towing but they later updated the tune to allow it.
