Need thoughts on this.....
2019 Ranger 13K miles. OEM Hankook has a bulge in it. Discovered at Ford (selling) dealer quick lane during oil change and rotation. Service advisor tells me at the outset-before I call Hankook-that all tire companies are a PITA dealing with warranty claims.
I call Hankook who tells me he needs to speak with the dealer.
Adviser talks with Hankook and after sending pics and other details Hankook will pro rate saving me about $90. Adviser talks with his manger and comes back and says they have had so many problems getting paid from tire manufactures they won’t file the claim and-I’m not kidding here-the adviser is personally liable for the cost if they don’t get reimbursed from the manufacturer. He then goes on to tell detailed stories of his fellow advisers getting payroll deducted for these unpaid claims.
I call Hankook. They absolutely will not accept a claim from a consumer. I have a call into a service manager at Ford.
If it was a few bucks I would let it go-but it is $90. I offer the service adviser to pay full cost and he files the claim. If they get paid they reimburse me or I’ll even settle for a credit. He is going to ask his manager.
In the meantime the tire is on order and will be in tomorrow.
On the one hand this system essentially renders my tire warranty useless. On the other hand I could go to a Hankook dealer and roll the dice (and waste more time) but that might not work because on my initial call to Hankook they said since it is OEM it must go to an OEM dealer.
Ideas? How far should I push this?
