It will be a little while until your first walnut harvest!!
I'd estimate 7-10 years minimum, may take up to 20. Do not be alarmed that the growth has stalled, it's common. Next years they should go back to 30cm per year growth.

https://www.nrs.fs.fed.us/pubs/jrnl/1974/nc_1974_bey_001.pdf

Black walnut trees planted as 1-0 seedlings generally show little, if any, net height growth during the first year.

If you'd ask me I'd say that the first year stall is due to bare root sapplings loosing most of their mycorizza. It takes a while until what's left of the bonded mycorizza to expand to the surrounding ground and start the nutrient and water pumping for the plant.

Well technically I didn't do anything out of the ordinary "with" the Ranger, but I did order an Extang Trifecta 2.0 Signature Series folding soft tonneau. We sell their vinyl ones, but I never had anyone request the Signature series version.... so I ordered one for my truck because I like that canvas car top look material. I asked Extang what they recommend for cleaning and UV protectant... they said they recommend RaggTopp by Wolfsteins products. I ordered the 303 products line fabric car top cleaner & protectant though instead since we already handle 303 products.
I know there are nicer and more low profile and more expensive tonneaus out there (mainly the hard type), but I didn't want anything which required rails along the trucks inner bed rails.... and since I have RA, I needed something I could reach and fold easily plus take off myself.

Gave it a quick rinse in town today, 4 feet away typical power wash routine.... Blurp and there it went.... SONOFA!!! LOL

Taped it with my knuckle, pretty sure that piece is aluminum or plastic, but still, it's a pisser. I'll swing by the dealer and lean on the service department in a few days.

doing similar cutting in NC. I have 4 saws, plus an electric, and think I will be getting a couple more electric and getting rid of the smaller gas saws. So much easier with the smaller saws when they are electric. I kept one poplar just for the perfect shade it provides.

I wish my truck was that clean right now. Been a busy summer for me and washing the Ranger ends up at the bottom of the to-do-list. Beautiful picture!

Have to say that the dry summer has not been kind to the walnut.

So current first summer KIA/MIA rate is 36%, possibly 50% after the single leafs die :p
My cousin and I planted 20 walnut trees similar to you, heavily shielded from animals and one survived. It’s about 30 ft tall and I keep a locust tree uphill of it. Every year I gather walnuts and sling them around the property and hope the critters bury them….good luck!

Went for bike ride after work. Weather started pretty crappy, but ended up being great. Post-ride adult beverage is standard.

Trimming trees in the fence row along the farm driveway. Hot and Humid day for this but at least it was shady all day.
My saw kept acting up. I think it was the heat and vapor lock. I did have to take the fuel filter off of the fuel pickup tube in the tank. That seemed to help. Ordered a tune up kit. Used this little saw alot over the past ten years and this is the first problem. I ain't complaining!

And.....
I ended up with poison ivy on my face and arms. "No good deed goes unpunished".
I have been using Tecnu scrub and cleanser but it was just too hot and the poison was too thick. Going to go jump in a pool, that always dries it out.

Poison ivy is a *****. I have had good luck with zanfel. I see it is a similar product as Tecnu.

Edit; Also they now make Calamine in a spray it goes on cold , feels really good and smells good too. It helped relieve my shingles rash which is very similar to poison ivy rash except times 2.

Hi Justin,

On a hike...taking our dog along...dog runs into a bush...I pick it up...then I relieve myself a few minutes later...not the place on your body where you want poison ivy... Sheesh....

best,
Phil

Poison is the worst. I work for an electric utility and the only OSHA recordable injury I have had in 16 years of service was Poison Ivy. We had a warm spell one year in March. I was trimming in a ROW before leaves were back on the vine. 80* in March and I was really getting at it. Got poison so bad that time that I couldn't bend my arms because the inside of my elbows were so swollen. Both eyes almost swelled shut. Prescribed a Steroid so it was an OSHA accident with lost work time.

This isn't near that bad but it's bad enough!

I have become an expert at spotting it and knew I was in it this time so the Tecnu has helped keep it under control and Benadryl helps with the discomfort.

The worst is definitely when you use the bathroom and the poison oils are on your hands. Right Phil?!

Another Phil that has had PI where you really don't want it. Fighting the urge to scratch in public, in pubic, was challenging.

On the other hand, fun times with the lady friend were interesting, like scratching an itch and scratching another itch at the same time.
