1st numerical column is new car price, to the right used car, link below to article.

Now I still see a good many new Tacos - but the number of newer model RAV4s I see is amazing, many driven by millenials, gen xs . Usually not rated as the top SUV but tells you something regards Toyota's appeal and staying power. I only occasionally see newer Escapes, but RAV4s are everywhere as are Outbacks.

Wouldn't waste my time looking at any on that list.
Since 1995 the only suv's we have owned are Subaru's.
Wife is on her 4th now, a loaded Outback Touring, and my Crosstrek is my 4th. Only reason for getting newer is the body and "stuff" changes every 3-4 years. My 2013 Crosstrek has 110,000 miles on the odometer, and another 50,000 miles being towed behind our motorhome (towed miles don't rack up on the odometer).
Probably close to 300,000 miles on all combined and never once had a breakdown or even a warranty claim.

As far as paying % over sticker...that depends on what part of the country your in, and the supply.
Here our Subi dealers may not discount too much, but you will never pay over sticker.
Even my new 2021 Ranger, purchased June 30th from a dealers inventory, was not marked up, even discounted a few $$$ plus the incentives discount.

A close friend of mine's wife has a '19 green on java outback touring 3.6R. Absolutely decked out and loaded with safety features. It's really nice. I'd take that over another buddy's wife's bmw X3 ALL DAY. Loads of rear leg room too.

Used car prices are absurd. How rich do you have to be to buy a decent car these days? The price index of a f150 compared to the CPI over the last couple decades is outrageous.

Probably because not enough are on the used car market. We all love aloud Rangers so much we are keeping them. Beside it takes so long to replace them now.

We're also a Ranger + Subaru family, have been for a quarter century. It's just a good balance and things like safety & utility matter to us.

Could this list be because those models are in especially short supply? Ford & Subaru kept dealer levels low but steady throughout the pandemic in our area. Some of the dealers of models mentioned in the list were literally out of vehicles midway through last year. My salesman moved to Ford when his multi-Japanese-maker dealership ran out of cars.

Same here. Wife and I bought our first in '05 - a Legacy...loved that car. She now has a '19 Legacy after owning a couple of Imprezas and we both had '16 Outbacks - mine got traded for the Ranger. Both of our daughters are driving Impreza 5-doors.

OK !!! It's a SUW, Sport Utility Wagon.
So There !!! HA !!!
Subaru DID invent the term SUS (Sports Utility Sedan) with the original Legacy Outback Sedan, however.

But it never took off, kinda like the 4DSC (4 Door Sports Car) nomenclature Nissan slapped on the early Maximas.

Maybe you could call an Outback a CUV. But an SUV has a frame.

Not to get off track but, Subarus have always appealed to me but I've never owned one (I did lease a new Forrester fo my MIL though) I was recently shopping for a new car for my daughter and was considering an Imprezza or Outback and I heard nothing but warnings from multiple mechanics about head gasket issues. Each one told me to stay away from them especially 2012 and earlier models. Some poking around doing research online did not alleviate my fears either.

Is this not an issue with Subaru engines? They've been known to burn oil as well?

Is some of all of this true?

I've had 4 subarus, 2 old school, 2 recent, one of which had the EJ25 in it. I've never lost a head gasket on one.

There were some factory gaskets made of improper materials for a few years. But they've been addressed. And even if you have an affected vehicle, one time and you're done. It's not like it's an ongoing issue.

There have been recalls on Subie's just like almost every other vehicle made. They all have problems that are taken care of over time.
My 2013 Crosstrek was recalled for a valve spring replacement. Seems that of over several million sold world wide, 8 or 10 had improperly made valve springs installed, and they failed. So Subaru recalled and replaced every valve spring in these vehicles. They had the procedure down to an art...took them just several hours to remove engine, replace springs, install engine.
My previous 2011 Ford Ranger, and our now current 2012 Ford E-450 based motorhome have both been recalled over the years.
