I'm not an insurance agent, but have more than enough experience in this area and I believe your insurance company flat out lied to you - or your explanation caused them to give this response. Either way, law enforcement is not going to do a hit and run report because it wasn't a hit and run, your vehicle wasn't moving, the damage is clearly not caused by a moving vehicle, and it the damage occurred in a private lot; without suspect information, no report would be taken.

It seems to me that your insurance company just didn't want to pay out - it should have been covered by your comprehensive. If I were you, I'd call and ask for a manager, explain everything, and see if they'll reimburse your cost on the PDR - you've already paid your dues.

I hate it when people are screwed over.

The deductible would likely cover most of the cost, so personally I'd payout of pocket, and not report it.

I'd also pay attention for that vehicle again in the area, and maybe make contact explaining you know they did it, and will take them to small claims court now that you have their plate info, unless they pay up.

Just take it to a paintless dent repair specialist .. I had a very similar dent in mine and they fixed it back to good .. you will be surprised what they can fix

Be very careful choosing one of those "lot monkeys" as the body shops call them. Had my rear quarter panel dented at the dealership. Went back the next day and told them I had not been anywhere except home and even when I'm not, I back into my handicap parking spots so it didn't happen anywhere but there. They took care of it with their lot monkey and he just messed that thing all up. I'd post to pictures of before and after but I lost them out of my phone. One thing is, when they touch up with paint, you have to wait about six weeks before you can put the sealer over top of it. I went by the body shop and they touched it up with some good 3M sealer and a good buffer(@no charge to me) and now you can't tell it. Just saying be careful. At least go by a couple body shops and get an estimate on that.

I learned from experience, $1200 damage on another quarter panel damaged from the actual hit-and-run when I was parked, cost me much more than that in the three years of raised insurance rates by using my insurance when I had a $250 deductible. For now on I will never claim anything less than $1500 or $2000 on my insurance, if God forbid, I ever have damage done again. Good luck!

Oh boy. Here is the final update to this fiasco for all those reading. Got a PDR specialist out here, was quoted 350-400, costed 375$. He was a very nice guy we talked about movies, tv shows, and he showed me the whole process and asked me to ask questions if need be. I watched about 80% of the two hour process. He saw the photo and said hey that doesn’t look too bad, but the angle I took it at didn’t show how deep the dent was. He thought it would be a 30-1 hour job but took him double the time and he said he was doing it perfectly slow because I’m a cool customer.

I know a lot of people think aluminum is easier to work with, myself included. But after talking to him and seeing how much brute force he was putting into the backside of the dent, I was shocked. He was telling me aluminum has a misconception that since it’s a softer metal it’s easier to work with. However, the flexibility of it makes it tougher due to not wanting to over flex the metal and that it doesn’t bang out as nice from the backside as steel. He said aluminum makes it harder to dent, but it’s harder to fix the dent. He told me if it was a normal steel, the dent would of been way larger.

I was skeptical but after watching him slowly knock out sections with a small chisel like tool and then accessing the backside with a dent pusher with full arm and shoulder strength, I was amazed. It was not an easy job in the sun, and he was a big fella. I swear I was sent the Michelangelo of dent repairs, it really is like magic watching them work the metal. Truly a puzzle as you knock out one section and it moves another section then you have to change sides because the dent will look good from one side but not the other. Just amazed. Gave him a 10$ tip for the new episode of Loki he will be watching, perhaps a beer or snack. The job was too expensive to tip more but loved the service and he said thanks for being a great customer since we chatted the whole time.

1 hour later, notice that crease near the curve of the fender flares taking more effort since it’s so small and on a curvature.

2 hours later. Amazing work, took one whole hour to get that small crease out, great attention to detail and effort.

Appreciate all your guys concerns and help. I will miss this forum in a decade when everyone has moved on, just a thought I had the other day and now again. Although, a happy ending sort of, just 375$ short but money is a tool towards your goals not a means to happiness, but in this instance money bought happiness

P.S. I bought Bushwacker OE style fender flares to avoid future dings like this. Also will be looking at Rocky Road rock sliders. I want the fiberwerks raptor fender/bedsides but after asking around I really don't have 3k lying around to be doing an aesthetic thing. At least there will some use to the other mods. If I bought the fender flares at the get go, I would have saved 400$, not to mention I DID NOT have the damper installed so my truck looked weak and non-aggressive. Big mistakes. So lesson learned, install your dampers, fender flares and park away from idiots.

Thanks for the heads up. I think I won't be going through the insurance. It costed $375 for a paintless dent repair to fix it. I quoted the final update, I know there was many pages to sift through but it's back to 99% perfect unless you put your eyeball right up into it. Dang, I just saw another post come up with a big dent too! I guess it’s idiot summer right now. Hope you get that one fixed up for relatively cheap. Even worse looks like they actually drove into it a little, looks a little big. Don’t get how people can do this and run…. Sigh. Update us, hopefully since it’s a slightly larger dent in a not so curvy place they can pop it out real quick without too much effort/low cost.

Here that it would be a damage to property report. As indicated if both vehicles were immobile then its not a hit and run. However if video was available to identify the suspects vehicle we could bring charges, private property or not. Under $500 would be criminal trespass, over $500 property damage. Both misdemeanors.

However moving violations are very limited on private property in GA; DUI, Reckless Driving, Handicap, Fire Lane.

I don't particularly agree with DUI if you are on your own private property. But I don't write the laws.

Completely OT, but I read that someone got a DUI for riding a horse drunk. Not sure where that was. Now that right there is total BS. The horse isn't drunk and it's not like you're going to be able get it to do something stupid, for the most part. A buddies grandfather use to tell a story that he would take a horse and carriage into town to get drunk and on the way home would go to sleep. He'd wake up with the horse standing in front of the barn.
