Very well stated. People always whine and cry about the state of infrastructure but refuse to show how it will be paid for other than taxes. I live in Kansas and the roads here are a joke, but at least I have cheap gas.
Ian, in our travels across our great country it seems that most all states have the same problem. In North Carolina, where in the past our roads were very good, the government (no matter which side of the aisle they sat) started diverting our road tax, and spending those taxes on their little pet projects. And now we are locked in a time warp. Raise the road tax, spend it somewhere else, run low on road tax monies, raise the road tax, spend it somewhere else, run low................You get the idea.

Politician: From the Greek words "Poli" meaning blood sucking, and "tician" meaning parasites.

Stop moving to Texas unless you plan on seeing the light and change your voting pattern. Never will I understand the mass exodus to TX by the Cali folks that still vote the same way in their new state. Leaving the state that they voted into the situation they are leaving and continue to do the same?????
HC, we're dealing with the second invasion of the south right now. It wouldn't matter to me if they just wouldn't bring their bad habits with them. We do have some very good folks moving into our state, but they are woefully in the minority.

Pros and cons for sure. Taxes are tough, they directly affect us but we indirectly experience the results. Not saying all taxes are good but we definitely have to look into how are money is being spent and vote or not vote for it.
That doesn't seem to work for voters, even if it's a ballot initiative with overwhelming support. The system has been so overly stacked that anything passing voters is subject to legislative dismissal through rewrite and or overwrite, as well as endless court entanglements so that nothing ever moves forward. After all, how could we possibly know what's good for ourselves, most are products of "the educational system" that doesn't, but does perpetuate.

For example, look at recall initiative trail on the current Caesar

If I'd lived in CA, I'd vote for every tax hike and self destruct bill there is...then I'd move out to AZ... ?

I hate it here. I can't even call it Commiefornia without getting scolded by my neighbors. The EV crowd votes for these higher taxes because it doesn't hurt them. Wait till they start taxing them too for batteries, overage charges for draining the grid, special parking passes, and whatever else they can come up with to steal your money.

I'm in the Taxation is theft crowd. A real rebel for these here parts. They like my kind round' here. Looks like I'll be riding my motorbike more than the Ranger.
Yep, watch out for them unintended consequences that come as a result of their policies. I remember years back when conserving water was all the rage. Then because people were conserving, the local utility wasn't pulling in as much money. So here came the water rate hikes.

Dangerous way to vote when you think that a particular bill/proposal won't affect you and your wallet. Eventually, the gov't figures out a way to separate you from your money.

Yep...the same gov who dumped trillions of fresh water into the ocean to save a bait fish then declares water emergency...

Just filled up with 87 at $2.65 for Shell...dropped from the 93 when it got above 2.75...it was cheaper here last year. I used 93 octane and never paid more than 2.49 for it. Now it is over $3.00.
Alabama does have it's advantages.
Used my Kroger credit card and fuel points yesterday to get 92 octane for .75 off per gallon.

I’m a direct descendant from the May Flower. Just reading through family history and it tells the story. Folks today got it pretty easy. They would never have survived if living 100 years ago. They would have put them in a sanitarium and closed the door never to be heard from again.

Actually there were many people that were NOT allowed to do many of these things, like women, african americans, chinese etc. Many were not considered a full human being at that time either. So unless your ancestors were subjugated as they were doing all of these things listed in this meme, I would say its a bit short sided to say the least.

Retired, work is a four letter word.
I don't have a problem with CA residents and what they do to themselves. What I do have a problem with is when they get tired of how much they F'd their state and government up and move to a new state and begin infecting it with their bullshit.

The definition of "insanity" comes to mind.
Yep, doing the exact same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome o_O

It's not just taxes and those voting on them.

In Colorado we have the TABOR bill which requires a public vote on significant tax increases. The last decade the State has detoured around that by calling things "fees." So as a State we got smart and passed a bill requiring public votes on significant fees last year, prop 117.

So this year the Democrat held Colorado legislature passed a $5.3 billion transportation bill. It is ENTIRELY funded by fees. But they split the income accross 4 different enterprise zones to avoid them being high enough to trigger a vote.

It's downright deceitful, and borders on criminal.

I was born in 1981 so I'm neither a boomer or a millenial. Neener Neener! I get the label Gen X and no one ever blames Gen X for anything haha
Nobody blames shit on us because we don't do much of anything.

We grew up cynical slackers. Most of us watched our most sacred institutions, family, fail. We don't trust the government. And are used to doing things on our own even if that means we miss out on somethings.

Perhaps our biggest failing as a generation is not giving enough of a fuck to do anything about anything.

'77 here.

I am in the same boat here in Oregon. The whole west coast is screwed. Everyone votes yes on new taxes. I always vote no what ever the tax is. It still always get voted in. In Oregon they are getting the electric cars now with higher registration fees due to they don't pay gas taxes. It still sucks bad. I could major rant but won't.
i wonder if the voting in those places is jsut rigged and has been rigged for years in order to get the "right" people in office...

Oregon's governor did the same dam thing. Changed a tax to a fee so the public couldn't vote on it. Funny enough it's called the Corporate Activity Tax but in the verbiage it says it's a fee.

The took a page out of Barry’s book. ACA is not a tax!
