Yet every Ranger on the two lots I visited had the tow package, whether you want it or not. And I'd be fine with installing the TBC had they included a plug in for the brake sensor under the dash, rather than have to tear down the interior to get all the way back to the 3rd brake light (if you want to do as Ford instructs.) If all the plugs were there under the dash, I wouldn't mind paying a few extra for Ford to install it, but having to do it Ford's way adds too much to the overall cost of the TBC.Hi Tom,
Corporate Greed...maybe more likely Bonus Greed. My guess is the program Chief Engineer needed to reduce costs and Marketing told him the take rate on a brake controller was so low so save some costs and save your bonus. So the compromise was put in the electrical circuits and sell the idea of Dealer Installed option. Once again, Ford Marketing failed to take the Market Pulse correctly... JMO.

So every full and mid sized PU has to be registered as a commercial vehicle in CA?I wonder how much it weights and if it is 6,001 pounds. If it has a GVWR of 10,001 pounds, is it subject to weight fees on the registration? In CA, does it have to be registered as a commercial vehicle?
I get what you're saying, but I have to disagree with saying It isn't a truck. It is a truck. Just a different segment of trucks. The guys driving big rigs could easily say an F350 isn't a truck and the guy driving the 350 could say the Ranger isn't a truck.I think it's hard for 'truck guys' to fully embrace it. I sort of like it, but it's not for me. It aint no truck, but there's a segment of suburbanites that might like a 4 door sudo SUV with a bed to haul mulch. Time will tell I guess. I think it's probably gonna be a hit.

I believe the lack of an integrated controller standard with the tow package was due to the 2019 Ranger being a rush job and with the integration of the AEB system. I'd be willing to bet that the next gen Ranger will have it standard, just like most all other tow-ready trucks now do.My biggest peeve is that the Maverick has a tow cap of 4,000 and comes with an integrated brake controller. The Ranger has 7,000 tow but no TBC. WHY!!

Hi Trevor,I started out "trucking" with an '82 Ford Courier, aka Mazda, aka Toyo Kogyo. It was a Butterscotch color. That could have been the hot "Saber" predecessor? but WHAT WAS I THINKING? I sure hope @P. A. Schilke wasn't sent to Japan to help with this one
I got it in 1984 as a dealer leftover with less than 100 miles. I should have known, why was it sitting on the lot for well over a year! And I think it was the last year they made them! It immediately began to rust. Every time I started it all I could hear was tick tick tick, the electric fuel pump sounded like a ticking time bomb. I thought I was the Coyote and the truck was the Road Runner, LOL. OHC engine and 4 speed stick...I had it about a year, and when I could not even buy a set of points for it, dumped it, and went to the Rangers. Not surprised I don't have any pictures of it, but did find an online similar model. Again, what was I thinking?
The Maverick is a truck that I would have wanted back then. Commuting to work, and light hauling with a new house. And to chime in on the hole in the dash next to the display? If you noticed, I did not see a tailgate damper in the video when he dropped the gate. Predict there will be a tailgate control panel there, for auto open and close and dampen rate. They will also fix the need for a rear view camera when the tailgate is down, with a selector for dual rear cameras, open and closed! My 2 cents....

I believe in order to get AWD you need to go to the ecoboost engine but that would be awesome to have that and 40 mpgI'm excited for it. My GF is interested in getting one because my Ranger does more work than most F250s, anyways. She could get that and I would probably move to the F150 Hybrid (that onboard generator speaks to me).
I already heard one guy spouting bullshit about how "it's not a truck" but then complaining that trucks were too big and why we don't get the Hilux. Pick a lane. The Ranger is more truck than most truck owners need, and why not get up to 40mpg?
Does anyone know if you can get AWD with the base model engine? It would be the perfect grocery getter and then I would have my tow rig.
I made a post that 'it wasn't a truck' but provided justification for my comment. It's not a truck in the terms I listed: Not body on frame and no true 4x4. With that said, it fits the market they're going for. I think it will be a hit, and if they offered a scab, 5.5 foot bed, and true 4x4, then I'd be on it. I was also disappointed that no AWD with PHEV at launch. That may change, so we'll see.I'm excited for it. Oh yeah, those scenes of endless and aimless cruising in a Ferrari - the music was so great - it was decades before surround sound but a local fm radio station would do a simulcast with the tv show - in stereo! It all sounds a bit odd now but it was so cool to watch the show with the stereo cranked. Loved that show!I still watch the re-runs all the time.
