I can see my dad getting one of these. He bought an ancient Toyota 1980 something pickup because the new ones are way too big and pricy for what he needs. He just wanted a little pickup truck. He really doesn't need a truck, he never tows anything, but on rare occasions might want the bed to throw some stuff in. He's always complained newer trucks are too big. Ford seems to be going after people like him.

I wouldn't want one, but I definitely think there is a big market for smaller and cheaper pickup trucks.

I wonder how much it weights and if it is 6,001 pounds. If it has a GVWR of 10,001 pounds, is it subject to weight fees on the registration? In CA, does it have to be registered as a commercial vehicle?

I spent $2000 on a shell for my Ranger. I didn't buy a shell to save weight fees, I did it because I'm a shell guy. I did re-register the truck as a car and had the title changed to a passenger vehicle. I save $85 a year not paying for weight fees. I would have to have the truck for 23.5 years for the savings in weight fees to pay for the shell. That wasn't my intention in purchasing the shell.

I just was curious if anyone knew the GVWR. In the Golden state, they take your money at every step.

I like it. If the hybrid model had 4wd I think it would be a lot more appealing. THAT is where I think Ford dropped the ball a little bit in my opinion. Thing will still sell like crazy though

Since Ford is basically abandoning cars, this is probably going to be their new MPG leader.

I would bet the hybrid goes in to the AWD version pretty quickly if for no other reason than to boost CAFE numbers.

For the first couple of years the only competition for this will be the Santa Cruz, which is really not competition since it is much less "truck-like" than the Maverick.

Not gonna lie, I'm going to be looking at it very closely when it comes out as I still have my Jeep if I need to tow.

I was initially really intent on the Santa Cruz but the Maverick has struck a chord with me that the Hyundai hasn't.

Maverick probably doesn't even come with a color matched Murse.

The Maverick caught my eye at first, but the size is what put me off. I just wouldn't be able to haul all my camping gear in it. I'm not even sure about my new Ranger, but with a shelf on the hitch, and possibly a couple of things on top of the bed cover, I think I'll be ok.

I like the idea of a hybrid or even all electric, and the price was very nice - all tricked out it's $10k less than the Ranger. I also liked all the little details in the bed design, but what's up with that nook by the radio screen?

I like it better than I did at first. Not for me though. I wanted a truck so I could do truck things (& some day I will! ). But, I also think it will be very popular.
But Tracy, think how easy it would be to park. ?

I looked at the 'parking pic' and never saw the joke. What did I miss?

Can’t say I blame you Dennis - looks like a truck, drives like a small SUV - has better styling than the competition. There’s a lot to like if you don’t need a full-on truck but don’t want to be the dumbass doing this…

The size makes me think of the Ranchero - surprised it wasn’t named that but then, maybe they’re keeping that in their back pocket in case they want to beat up on the Gladiator with a Bronco pick-up. It would be kinda cool.

The whole front of the truck is ugly. Not really getting the excitement for this thing. Just seems like a Ford Ridgeline. The saving grace is the entry price but as a ranger replacement? No thanks.
Next gen ranger will have the same ugly front. The manufacturers are all in a contest to see who can make the highest stupidest front end.

Oh, I've already bought the gear after a very difficult overnight hike that involved actually carrying a duffle bag because my backpack wouldn't hold my heavier than needed gear... Just haven't used it yet other than for extra weight while walking on the treadmill.

I like it! Definitely not a Ranger replacement, but it looks well done! I like the hybrid and use of space. Looks like a fun commuter that can help with hauling duty when needed. Maybe by the time my kids get old enough, I can get them a used one.
