Doesn't the Forscan removal make it totally inoperable? Like if I had to go to the big city (that has more than two stoplights), and wanted to save some gas, could I press the button to turn it on if I *did* wish to use the ASS?

On a side note it is nice that there are so many different ways to just say no to....

The money “saved” with the start/stop system doesn’t come close to the price of an AGM battery & wore out starter motor.

I’m too happy to disable it than to worry if it’s possible to reactivate it. The price of an AGM battery & starter is enough for me. The fuel mileage/environmental detriment are negligible in my opinion. Aside from that, I don’t know if it’s a permanent decision. I’ve dealt with enough start/stop issues on GM vehicles to the point I had no problems ridding my personal vehicle of them.

I like ASS. I have no issues with it so far. My assumption is the starter will fail in
10yrs or more like all my other starters in my other cars that lasted over 10 yrs.

$85.... why not just push the button and save the money? End result is the same.
I'll have to admit, I'm lazy ... easier this way, since I would sometimes forget to push the button! And if I want to turn it back on, all I have to do is unplug the night light..

No dog in this fight.... I do believe that Phil S stated in another post/another thread/same topic that the starters are designed to have a longer cycle life to compensate for the added cycles...

Like he said. Prove it. Show some hard data that said these trucks are going to smoke starters and batteries. I don't buy stock on seat of the pants projections.
Well... don't turn your back on logic and proportion.

Mechanical components (the starter) will last longer if they are used less.

A battery, as long as it is being charged regularly, should also last longer if it isn't having a huge drain on it regularly.

Logic and proportion are a distant second to actual hard data. From day one the naysayers have been saying that the ASS will chew up starters. I've yet to find the bad starter megathread. ASS is not unique to the Ranger. Where is all of this data showing the ASS is prematurely roasting starters?

As others have said, the starter and battery are designed for it.

However things fail to perform the way they were designed all the time. There are literally millions of people who make a living off of this. As a former mechanic on a highly integrated system (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pnuematic) I know better than to take an engineer's word on anything. The real world is sometimes a little different than they draw things up on paper.

With that being said, it never hurts to apply a little common sense to the situation.

Couple that with Mazda's claim that ASS only improves mileage by .1 percent bt EPA standards and I leave my ASS off.
