Seems like a slanderous thing to say.
Thats not how slander works, especially if he prefaces a statement with the word "if" in it.
If I go to every forum on the internet and state, "I think HenryMac is into pegging with pineapples" and that statement results in someone not giving you a job (as an example) because they don't want to hire someone with that hobby you can't do anything to do me. "I think" is a 1st Amendment free pass.
If I think a store has ripped me off for some reason and on the way out I tell all the customers walking in not to buy anything because "those assholes will rip you off" - again, nothing can be done.
Slander, much like terroristic threats, generally has to contain a very specific and detailed language as well as the victim able to provide real tangible evidence of damages.
I go to calls all the time in my line of work where people want to report someone for threanting them because, "He said he was going to take me out."
Well, take you out where? To dinner? A date? To play putt-putt golf?
