What are members recommending in worth while suspension upgrades.

Struts, Shocks, Leaf Springs, possible upper control arm. 2" Lift. 32" tires.
90% on road commuting
10% off road with a 450lb payload. while Overlanding.
No towing.
Novice off roading. No high speed running on rough terrain.

It would be nice if they posted the Nm of the available leaf spring offered.

I might be able to give you a good recommendation here. I myself am a novice off roader and like what I have. I went with the Old Man EMU lift by ARB woth 265/70-17 Bridgestone Dueler Revo 3's. For offroad capabilities they are pretty good!! The front is lifted 2.4 inches and the rear is lifted 1.6 inches not including the loft from the tires. On road is good as well. Can you tow? Absolutely. Can you put stuff in the bed? Yes you can. Depending on what you plan on putting in the back all together will depend on the spring choice. The standard lift(what i have) will level out with 800 lbs in the bed. If you are only looking at having just over 400 in the bed you should be good. If needed they have leafs that are designed for a constant 660 lbs in the bed.

For more information look at all my differnt reviews on the forum. Lots of info on these!!

Hope this helps

What is your budget? Are you going to be doing the installation yourself?

You can spend thousands on suspension upgrades, but is it really necessary to spend that to achieve your goal?

You could likely achieve what you've listed with a spacer leveling kit and replacing the rear shocks.

For a more complete upgrade maybe get the full Bilstein kit for <$400.

That will give you an improved ride over stock, easily able to run 32" tires, and the 450lb payload will be fine with the factory springs.

If budget wasn't an issue, would I personally like to get an Icon Stage 12 kit for my truck?

Absolutely.

Would I ever approach even a fraction of its enhanced capabilities with my type of driving?

Absolutely not.

I will never off road this truck hard enough to need reservoir shocks or super duper UCAs, but they would be kinda cool to have, so just a desire and not a need.

Only you can determine what to budget for desires vs needs.

You might have missed it but if you click his profile picture it shows he is in Canada so his dirt roads might be a bit gnarly. Also a spacer leveling kit is a horrible choice for offroad and you should know that.

Well, he's only planning on 10% off road so it might be OK. No worse than stock anyway.

Only he can determine if he really needs some very expensive modifications to do what he wants.

Honestly, he could probably do everything he listed in a stock truck with the possible exception of 32 inch tires.

Well, every mod I desire needs me to buy it, so I need an unlimited budget so I can keep up with the desired needed.

Get's me thinking more about my application and what's really necessary.
From the well documented installation on this site I could do the Struts and shocks.
I am interested in the Fox tuned by Ford 2.0 IFP off-road suspension kit. I don't think I would need a reservoir shock. I will have to think about having Ford do the work for a warranty. Mounting leaf springs are a bit beyond my shop time and ability.

Is the after market tubular upper control arm recommended for my application with a not so excessive lift and tire clearance. Will binding be an issue for a Novice off road driver.

I like the ARB parts, but would I really put it to its application use.

Thanks for the members input.

Honestly - I think you'd be fine with better tires

After that a modest leveling kit that has softer suspension - shocks with resies.

If you are not going more than 2.5 inches of lift up front you will be ok without upper control arm replacements. Replacing the rear leafs is fairly simple from my experience as I installed my kit. Would you get your moneys worth out of it? I'm sure you would. Its not like you are trying to go rock climbing like a tricked out jeep or trying to hit the Baja with a trophy truck. Overall the Old Man EMU lift is a very practical lift and one of the best for "best bang for your buck" type of suspension.

Our roads? This picture of our busiest freeway says it all. I wish it was a better image but we still only have B&W photography up here. You, know, to go with our gnarly roads, igloos, mounted police, fur trappers, and such.
