I just received my Rough Country 2.5" leveling kit. From what I've been reading, it's best to replace some of the factory hardware instead of reusing. Can someone tell me what is recommended to replace?

Hey Josh,

The recommendations on the forum seem to be guided by the idea that certain nuts are Nyloc nuts. More informed posters (engineers) indicate they appear to be reusable UBS nuts with a polyethylene seal. Replacement of the CV axle nut seems to be recommended by all.

With that said, the best source is the Ford Shop Manual. Check the Front Suspension sections for the official recommendation from Ford. You may have to look at a few chapters to find all references. The good news is, they include the torque specs for reinstalling the nuts. The manuals are posted in this thread...

You can see that they say to toss these in the example below:

  • Strut Top Mount Studs - 3 nuts
  • Strut Bottom Studs - 2 nuts
  • Upper Ball Joint - 1 nut
  • Tie Rod End - 1 nut
  • CV Axle - 1 nut
Good Luck.
