Does anybody know if this motor has a turbo silencer in the intake? I know the V6's have various baffle type things in the intake to quiet down the turbo, was wondering if anyone has come across anything "suspicious" in the intake tract of the Ranger?

Yep, I'm all over this forum, you will have a hard time finding a thread I've not seen yet :) I am more looking for if this one has a physical silencer in the tubes instead of hearing what it will do with an aftermarket intake. I had a Focus ST with aftermarket everything, so I know the sound with a CAI is much improved.

I appreciate the cross linking though for future internet travelers.

Have you looked into this more? I’m curious too, I want my Ranger to sound like a Peterbilt

OK, so there is one, I just haven't figured out how to remove it yet. Is in one of the charge pipes, and has a shape sort of like an hour glass. (a fat one).

I'll see if I can take a picture of it. It's long enough that you can't just cut it out and scab in a straight section of hard pipe with some clamps. I saw evidence of the one in the mustang when I was researching the VTA mod (search the forum for "Chair Leg Mod").

We may be waiting for someone to build a set of charge pipes (or at least a hot side) where the silencer is deleted.

Necro Thread!!!!

The silencer is on the top of the engine right where the recirc valve is installed. the charge pipe necks down to 1.75" or so which does two things.

Reduces lag by a marginal amount, and stops the turbo from singing it's beautiful song.

Then you want to look at getting a set of these for starters.
Not me, I want no part of 360$ worth of former silicone. I can probably fab just the hard part myself, but I need some way to bead roll it.

They are powder coated mandrel bent aluminum. Only the connector fittings are silicone and those are reinforced at that.

But hey if you have access to a mandrel bending tool, tig welder and powder coating setup and lathe for the intercooler connections then go for it.
