In a 2021 XLT (with 302A tech package), Adaptive Cruise Control is supposed to bring the vehicle to a halt if the car in front is stopped. This is per Ford's own videos, etc.

But, I find that the vehicle does not stop, and instead, when approaching a car that seems to have stopped, it alerts with the pre-collision system (3 red bars on the center display) and I have to hit the brakes.

I tried a few different things. What am I setting incorrectly?

All driver assist features are active.

Per the owners manual it does not function below 12 mph. What video are you looking at?

Ranger doesn't have stop and go cruise control and adaptive cruise will only slow to ~12mph then driver intervention is necessary. Ranger does not have electric brake hold (like the Escape) which is necessary for the stop and go feature.

wait until the AEB takes over....and hope you stop.
Ford throws the caveat in there

Tried out my ACC today. Think I didn’t read the manual well enough

Your lights should NEVER come on in this situation, unless you are flying up behind a fully-stopped vehicle. Mine on my Explorer works just fine but I will admit it waits significantly longer to engage than my Subaru Outback did. If the car in front of me is already stopped, it will wait much longer than it would have with the Subie. As a matter of fact, I'm not sure if I've allowed it to get to the point of lights flashing because I'm not willing to find out the hard way.

Try this to see if yours is working: put your distance from car ahead of you to "maximum" (four bars for me in my Explorer; not sure what this would be for you). Follow someone in front of you up to a red light. As they slow then stop, you should as well. That is what is supposed to happen. If it doesn't, I would be contacting my dealer immediately.

** EDIT **

I double-checked my Explorer owner's manual and it is identical to the Ranger owner's manual. Both of them say the exact same thing. I've definitely had it pull me all the way to a stop.

The Ranger DOES NOT have stop and go ACC.

This is completely wrong. It does not function the same as your Explorer.

The owner's manuals are identical, right down to the "under 12mph" thing. I don't try to do the stop and go with it; I just have had it take me down to zero a couple of times. I'll try it again next time I go out. Maybe it's different than I remember it, but I'm sure it brought me to a stop. Now, you've got me questioning myself!

Well, I was half-right, but I guess that means I was also half-wrong. Thanks, Doug, for setting me straight. I went out and tested this and everything worked the way it should have. However, at the 12 mph mark, the small chime sounded, and the car was just drifting slowly toward the next car in front of me. I guess when I had tried this out before, I had slid my foot over to the brake to be in total control without realizing that it wouldn't have completely stopped, as my Subaru did. I use my adaptive cruise religiously, but I never let it take me all the way down.

I did NOT get the flashing red lights and loud beeps but again, I was following traffic to the stop light, not approaching already stopped traffic, which is a huge difference.

No worries it happens.

I remembered my slight disappointment in the ACC when researching. My wife's CX-5's ACC doesn't do stop and go and I had hoped the Ranger would.

it should disable the cruise at 12mph.....perhaps you were slow enough to have it stop on its own from friction, slight incline or whatever....but i dont believe it would be activating the brakes in a true stop and go fashion.
try it and let us know....but dont hit the guy in front of you.
Yeah, that's exactly what happened! It disengaged, but I was going so slowly that I didn't notice it before sliding my foot over on to the brake pedal!!!

I guess I can't complain because I use it SO much and it took me 33 months of driving before learning that it DOESN'T do this!!! I seriously use my cruise (adaptive or not) probably more than 99% of the driving public but I have always put it in my hand for coming to a complete stop.

I just wish my motorhome had ACC. That would be insanely helpful.

Thanks all. It looks like i the "Explore Your Vehicle" section of my ranger pager, it somehow linked the ACC with Stop and Go. So I assumed (since I only purchased ACC) that this was just a more complete way to say ACC.

Based on your comments it's clear that they're different systems, and I see that now too in the ACC summary page: eg F150 has ACC w/Stop and Go, but not Ranger. (sadly :D )
