Do Window Wind Deflectors Work on a Ranger?

I smoke cigars. A 5x60 robusto or toro will last through the 107 mi trip between our main home and our river house.

I crack the driver's window a bit to exhaust the smoke. Previous vehicles had powered rear windows, so I'd crack the window behind me a bit also. Worked great. This pulled the smoke and reduced the wind whistle on my window.

But with my Supercab, I only have the driver's window, and the wind whistle is loud. So I've considered installing window deflectors to reduce the noise.

Question is will these help?

I don't smoke in my car.... but I'm looking for a solution on wind noise too. Fords shitty aerodynamic design on the Ranger makes it annoying to drive with the windows down.

And God forbid if you want to roll the rear windows down (SuperCrew). Then you suffer thru the constant pulsing buffeting wind noise until you surrender and roll them back up.

Oh nooooo, but at least I know this before my SuperCab arrives. So, I'm in for the answer to Dave's question. If it's a yes then it looks like I'll need to order some wind deflectors also.

BTW, I don't know what it is about Ford's. But the buffeting in my wife's Mustang convertible is so bad at times I think the back window will flop right out. SMH

Bob, I had the same in my F-150. I could open the sliding rear window, or one of the rear door windows just a little, and that would help some.

...not sure the problem is Ford specific. Any vehicle I've owned starts the helicopter pounding if I have a rear window partially down at high speed. Completely open or shut solves it.

But other than for smoking, or letting the dog hang his head out under 40 mph I keep the windows up. A/C always works fine.

THIS!!! I've had the same experience for any car or truck built in the last 15 years.

I have a feeling it has to do with the aerodynamics. Cars are starting to look VERY similar due to there only being so many ways you can create good aerodynamics (for MPG).

You create a Helmholtz resonance cavity which can drive you crazy with the buffeting...

I have a feeling it has to do with the aerodynamics. Cars are starting to look VERY similar due to there only being so many ways you can create good aerodynamics (for MPG).

I would agree with the aerodynamics and probably the tight cabin seals add to that. Doesn't matter if its a truck, SUV or sedan of any brand, I've experienced it in many different vehicles.

I have the weather tech deflectors in the front windows. They look great, install in the window channel without tape. Cigar smoking would be much more enjoyable with them.

Good to know. ....do these reduce wind noise. I normally crack the window 1/2" max and it's pretty noisy. Actually it gets worse as I narrow the gap.

yes, to Some degree. I find the truck overall is quieter than my 2002 dodge was with the vent visors. I don’t notice any additional new noises with the weather tecs.

So true. Had the same thing with our '13 Impala, my '02 Sport Trac and my brides '98 Grand Prix.
It was just unbearable to ride in if the rear windows were opened.
