I really dug my Yakima Holdup other than what you pointed out. Replaced to allow fat bike carriage with a Thule which I also really love. They’re both sturdy racks but not exactly easy to take on and off a lot. ?Sorry if this is a late post, I wanted to be able to contribute. Yakima Hold Up 2. Only issue is I cannot full open the tailgate with the rack in the down position.
I doubt that very much.I think the pressure you put the fork under by not having the bike straight, and then you add to that the bouncing around, i think it might have been why the fork needed to be repaired.
or, 3. this bike rack was retrofitted for this truck not taking into consideration that some of us have the 5' length bed and could not close the tail gate without having to move the back wheel to the side creating an awkward angle and pressure on the fork (see attached picture). The racks works perfect if you leave the gate down and it also looks great.I doubt that very much.
If that was a case, this kind of hitch rack wouldn't even exist.

A couple questions I have about your fork failure.
1. What EXACTLY needed to be repaired in your fork? Entirely possible (and quite likely) that the transportation method had absolutely nothing to do with what happened to the fork.
2. How was your maintenance on said fork? Also entirely possible that heavily delayed (or perhaps never done) service meant that the fork was headed out anyway.

There is zero reason why that should trash a suspension fork. None whatsoever. I also have a KuaI have a Kuat hitch mount, cheaper and as good if not better than Yakima and Thule. Got it for the jeep I traded on the Ranger.
You want the flat support under the wheels, not hanging from the frame, style of hitch rack. Easier to load and less wear and tear in the bikes.
I also have a Kuat. Very happy with it. No wobble and it tips back for easy access to the bes.How is the best way to Carry a bicycle around I have a bed cover Looking into the trailer hitch one.

I know !!!!! I need to hock my transfer 2.0 to get that, shouldn't have gone cheap that being said I actually love the transfer 2, was perfect for my Jeep with a hatch instead of a tail gate.
wait I need to learn how to read, I see that's a hitch adapter so it works with any hitch rack including my Kuat Transfer 2
Cardboard is more than adequate to protect the paint, I would not put my new truck in harms way, the bike locks in and doesn't move at all, but a quick bungee does add a bit more security.That works if you don't care about your paint job or your bike
