Stocked up on supplies 2 weeks ago and hanging tight in the middle of about 2,000+ wooded acres to see how this all plays out. The plan is to spend time with family and hope things don't get too bad in populated areas. Hopefully a lot of the predictions I've seen are wrong.

Ever see a Trabant?
You won't be getting anything like a Ranger when the Marxist left gains control.
I'd rather be poor in a rich country than rich in a poor country any day.
Anybody emigrating to Venezuela lately?
Yes, f’ the Marxists and anybody advocating for the government ownership of the means production. Now, exactly what politician is advocating for that specific policy, and what is the policy? I want to make sure I vote against them.

I will absolutely fight along side you and anyone here to keep America from becoming Venezuela if you in return commit to fight to keep America from becoming 1930’s Germany. K thanks.

I'm not sure there is anything about COVID-19 that is NOT political? ?
Well in that case...
Could say the same about Obama. Couldn’t understand why he was given a pass from the criticism when he seemed like a terrible president. Criminal/prison reform nope. That was trump....]
Obama (REF: TheGuardian)
  • First sitting president to visit a federal corrections facility
  • First president to oversee a sustained reduction in the incarceration rate in a half century
  • "smart on crime" reforms to eliminate mandatory minimums for drug-related crimes
  • Imposed federal oversight on eight large police departments over its two terms for civil rights overstepping.
    • In their 16 years combined, Clinton and Bush oversaw just six.
Trump (REF: FoxNews)
  • First-Step Act:
    • Several reforms including reduced 3-strike drug offence sentences from life to 25yrs and gave judges more leeway on sentencing guidelines.
[...Ending wars abroad/bringing troops home/getting our allies to pay for our help. Obama. No, sorry trump....]
DoD actually publishes official numbers of troops overseas here showing the following overseas troop deployments in numbers (I quickly pulled these, so they include overseas deployments in ally countries as well as conflict zones):
  • Sept. 2008 - 370,449 (483,670*)
  • Sept. 2012 - 272,623 (369,551*)
  • Dec. 2016 - 199,485 (275,850*)
  • Dec. 2019 (newest) -171,081 (225.650*)
* = Overseas totals including Civilian DoD and Reserves
[...Obama couldn’t grow the economy over 2%... I could go on. Compare apples to apples and it’s a no brainer who has gotten more done for America. I have no political affiliation and it seems very obvious people who hate trump look at his personal issues vs what he’s done. Where Obama was considered a saint and didn’t do much with the platform. Whether you like rangers or not if you’re going to bad mouth the sitting president don’t expect others to agree or respect its better to say nothing. I’ll end my point there.
The statements you gave were overly generalized and misleading, which is how we stay stuck in this mess. If we want to have a discussion on whether something is a net positive or negative, that's one thing, but things are more often, somewhere in-between. Context and evidence are key.

I agree that people with partisan views demonize the opposition, fueled by senseless attraction to a hyper-partisan 24-hour, sensational news cycle. People do not have the critical thinking skills to determine facts from "spin", and big media feeds off of it. I think it's a stretch to say that Obama was considered a saint. While you could indicate a majority of media bias toward Obama, that doesn't represent all media. When people are reinforced in their beliefs, they feel happier about themselves, and the media eats it up. CNN's take on Obama in '12 looks like Fox News' take on Trump in 2020. Neither represents the country as a whole. Hot-takes don't really help find middle ground though. More unites us than separates us, but somehow we focus on blowing the differences out of proportion, rather than discuss all things Ranger

But who knows? Maybe this is just my liberal, university-educated, communist brainwashing coming out to play.

Watched the Trump press conference. Lots of good in it. Declared national emergency with waivers, red tape being cut, financial assistance options etc.

I really hope the containment and curve flatening works out so we and the markets can get back to normal before May.

"That specific policy" does not define the real world manifestation of Marxism.
Don't forget that "Nazi" is translated National Socialist,
You might think that socialist and communist policies make strange bedfellows, but the former has always lead to the latter.
You know full well which party advocates socialist policies and control of private industry, along with limiting personal liberty.
They are the ones who share a vision of the future.... "imagine a boot stamping on a human face ...forever."
I am an American Conservative, without party affiliation. I find no allies on the left and few on the right.
It may be that the left will prevail as you seem to hope... and that vision of an Orwellian future will manifest itself in your lifetime.... good luck with that.

It's a bit naive to conflate socialism and communism with democratic socialism. I'd like to hear your views on subsidies for farmers, oil, and banks; programs like medicare, medicaid, social security, and the US Military; or tariffs that safeguard U.S. industry from the global free market economy.

And just to set the record straight and give some context to my stances: I'm a fiscally conservative, socially liberal citizen, without political affiliation. I'm a gun owner, gas guzzler (desperate for a re-gear on my Ranger), with a Bachelors in Political Science and a focus in Post-Soviet Int'l Relations

No... you wouldn't.
I do find you calling me naive more than a bit comedic with a twist of irony.
I'm sure you want what's right for all, every man is right in his own mind.
Robert Burns lays a good perspective open to a plow share in "To a Mouse"
Odds are, neither of our utopian dreams will come to pass, at least I am not so naive as to expect it.

I was calling that statement naive, not making a personal attack. If you want me to dissect and explain my assertion i'd be more than happy to. But I would actually be interested in hearing your take on U.S. social programs. I have a curious mind and like to understand people; and why they hold firm beliefs, one way or another.
