Anyone else experience this? Last night when my 2019 XLT FX4 Ranger was off and locked, my motion camera recorded 1 occurrence of the headlights going on for 1 second and then off. Very spooky.

Jim, not sure its related or not but my truck kept unlocking itself at night and the door mounted keypad seems to be the culprit. Bret

If you have automatic high beams, it was probably responding to some lights...or lack of lights...in front of you.

Mine go to high beams if the programmed conditions are met. Sometimes it switches to high beams then immediately switch back to low. It does seem like a flash.

If your truck is not equipped with automatic high beams... nevermind. :like:o

Newbie here. I came across this thread while trying to figure out why my security camera recorded my lights performing an impressive strobe show as I was walking away. Turns out LED lights aren't constantly on but blink at a high rate, faster than our eyes can detect, and video records at a certain number of frames per second. Some frames record the LED on and some off so it just appears the lights are flashing or putting on a strobe show.
Anyhow, I just want to share what I found. Great forum too, by the way.

You are partially correct on this. An LED is either on or off. In order to dim an LED, a process called Pusle Width Modulation (PWM) is used. It basicly turn the LED on and off very rapidly. By varying the on time vs off it dims the LED. LEDs don't like changing the voltage to dim them like incandesents although PWM does work with incandesents also.

So are trucks use do things like fade out our internal lights when we close the doors. It is also used to dim our headlights when used as DRLs. This is what your security camera is probably seeing.

What @jim noon has going on I have no idea. The lock/unlock glitch sounds the most plausable idea. My truck is garaged and no security camera so if it doing it I have no idea.

are you sure the lights turned on? could be the infrared flash from the camera bouncing off the headlight reflectors.
