Hi guys, just got a 2020 XLT super crew 4x4 and I am wondering, if I wanted to swap over some FX4 suspension, would I need the control arms from an FX4 or would they mount to the stock ones on my regular 4x4? Anyone done this before? I assume it would be a pretty easy and straight forward conversion.

Do some research, many complain the FX4 suspension sucks. You would be better off getting a real off-road setup, Fox makes good stuff
I found a set for $150 so I'm wondering if it's worth it. I've. also been reading some people don't like how it feels on road, but I've driven an FX2 and I can't imagine it's much different. I mainly just wanted the slight lift and off road performance, but now I'm second definitely guessing it.

Yeah, the FX4 stuff is not what I'd call and upgrade, mine are leaned up against the wall. If you are heading up near Sacramento anytime soon you can have them for nothing.

Not worth it for $150. FX4 and XLT 4x4 are the same ride height.

If you wanna spend some money start with rear dampers like some Fox, Eibach, or Bilstein that will support a slight lift. Then down the road you can get leveled struts, coilovers, or a lift kit.

The only difference for FX4 suspension is the shocks. As others have mentioned you are better off getting Fox or other brands.

I’d be more concerned about the skid plates in terrain management

This. Add the skid plates and terrain management, then get after market shocks. If you want to keep the full warranty, get the Ford/Fox 2.0s.

I have the FX4 package. It is worth it for what is bundled (skip plate, Terrain Management, locking dif, etc), but the shocks are disappointing. I am trying to decide between Fox and Bilstien options myself. My only signficant complaint about this truck is the floaty/soft/uncontrolled ride. I knew that before I bought, and always planned on upgrading.

I don't know of anybody on the forum or off of it who went from stock 4X4 to stock FX4, although lots of guys have gone from stock 4X4 or stock FX4 to Foxes or other aftermarket suspension systems. I started with FX4 but swapped the suspension out for Ford Performance Levelling Kit (Foxes), which gives me all the features of FX4 with a great stance, more clearance, and an improved ride.

Can confirm, fx4 suspension is terrible. Will be replacing with frpp fox or eibach before this camping season.

Mine are in the FPP box in the living room. The elderly Maine coon cat uses the box to get up into the bay window to lay in the sun in the afternoons. When that cat dies, I'm afraid I'm going to have to find a new place for those FX4 shocks in the FPP box. Don't think the GF is going to want used parts store in her house

Guess I'm the oddball  here.

I find the FX4 suspension not to be bad at all.

I really notice it when cruising down gravel roads with lots of holes and stuff. The suspension seems to suck it up when traveling at a decent speed. Way better then my 2013 F-150 Screw did.

I loved the FX4 suspension when I first got the truck. Then I drove over an expansion strip on an interstate overpass and it was pretty ridiculous. For an instance, I thought I was going to be wrecking my truck.

I've got Eibachs all around now and the ride is absolutely perfect! If I were you and I wanted to do an FX4 type package on your 4x4:
-Eibach suspension
-Terrain Management switch (turned on with FORscan)
-Rear locker (you can buy a rear end from a wrecked FX4, install it under your truck, and turn the rear locker on and off with a switch!)

Did you just do the Eibach struts with the factory springs or the complete Eibach front strut assembly?

I did the complete kit with the front springs. I set the front to 3.75" and it settled to 3.5" of lift with the weight of my ARB bumper and winch. The rear shocks really improved the ride!
