The amount of times this concern has come up around here tells me that maybe a quick tutorial of the primary switches, buttons, and knobs is in order for any new person driving their vehicle.

I know I at least try to become well acquainted with the primary controls in any new vehicle, whether someone explains it to me or not, before setting off.
I do the same. My wife knows not to, she just didn't notice she turned it on. She picked me up after getting a hair cut. I noticed when I got in the truck.

How can I check for binding?
She would've heard a grinding like sound coming from the front end while driving. This seems to happen often and no one has had any issues so you should be good.

I've been meaning to put a sticker on my gauge cluster near the fuel level indicator "93 octane only" in some even someone else is driving my truck and has to get gas...

This thread is a good reminder. lol
I have one inside the gas door on my mustang. Even though I'm the only one to ever drive it. And I always pump my own gas. Maybe the wife is right. Maybe I am neurotic. I'm going to have to remove it anyway, switching to e30 tonight after work.

I wouldn't worry. As long as she didn't turn it hard and there wasn't any binding you will be good.
Probably just a few dozen parallel parking maneuvers... ?

Don't worry, should be fine. I've done the same before. Too easy to hit that knob with my knee for some reason.
You've turned it with your knee ? If we drove Nissan Rogues the result might be more concerning. Can't believe how many automakers show how twisting that silly little knob magically transforms the outside environment to match the terrain mode. I think it's fake......

Rangers should have a missile launch protection around that knob. I've heard of someone break a CV after an interior cleaning. The person did not pay attention and broke the CV at the next roundabout, on a new car, first one of this type.

Ford aftermarket tech here!
4wd one time won't hurt. Just make sure it's not being driven constantly in 4wd on pavement. The rear locker is disengaged when cruising above 30km/h and re-engages below 30 again. 4wd is always on when switched into 4Hi but can't be disengaged above 100km/h. As long as the tires are even tread (less than 2/32 difference) then you should be fine, even if it happens several times.

Cheers,

Tires are softer than axles... tires will scrub long before any driveline damage would occur.
Exactly;
Don't make a habit of it, but don't worry about it, if you mess up for a few miles in 4WD that you didn't mean.

I'LL be VERY disappointed if my Ranger breaks due to a few miles in 4WD on pavement.

Just sayin,
