I noticed that there a quite a few of you that have an iPhone 12/mini/pro/max and still prefer the car wireless charger over the MagSafe solution. I suppose that's because it is more plug and play and the white Apple MagSafe charger is not to everyone's liking.

I was playing around a little and came up with this, not as clean as a hardwired USB charger but plug and play.

I used this little 12V to USB-A/USB-C adapter and made little cable clip to hold the wire up, almost invisible. And as you can see, the USB-A QC3.0 port is left free, easily accessible to charge the passenger's phone or power anything else.

For those who prefer black over white, Mophie makes a "MagSafe compatible" wireless charger that has the same dimensions as the Apple MagSafe charger and blends in very well. It's limited to 7.5W though compared to the 15W max with the Apple MagSafe charger on a 30W power supply.

In the future, if you would like a couple of the cable clips with the MagSafe bracket, just let me know.
Why couldnt you use This and connect to the usb port?

Your link doesn't work but a simple USB-A to USB-C converter would not resolve the power issue. The MagSafe charger needs a 30W PD power source while the Sync 3 only provides 5W to 7.5W at 5V.

There is really no need to mess with the Sync 3 ports. I used some of those to tap into the 12V wires of the left 12V outlet and hid this below the bracket. There is plenty of space between the center console and the bracket to run the wires almost invisible.

That's what I'm planning on doing, but I'm wondering how long is power present there after you shut down. The way I read the manual, power stays on at the power points after ignition is off:
12 Volt DC Power Point
WARNING
WARNING: Do not plug optional electrical accessories into the cigar lighter socket. Incorrect use of the cigar lighter can cause damage not covered by the vehicle warranty, and can result in fire or serious injury.

Note: When you switch the ignition on, you can use the socket to power 12 volt appliances with a maximum current rating of 15 amps.
Note: If the power supply does not work after you switch the ignition off, switch the ignition on.
Note: Do not hang any accessory from the accessory plug.
Note: Do not use the power point over the vehicle capacity of 12 volt DC 180 watts or a fuse may blow.
Note: Always keep the power point caps closed when not in use.
Do not insert objects other than an accessory plug into the power point. This damages the power point and may blow the fuse.
Run the vehicle for full capacity use of the power point.
To prevent the battery from running out of charge:
  • Do not use the power point longer than necessary when the vehicle is not running.
  • Do not leave devices plugged in overnight or when you park your vehicle for extended periods.
I'd hate for that charger socket to "vampire" my battery at night. Thoughts?

It runs about 20 minutes after turning ignition off. I have the dash cam and the charging pad connected to it without issues for the last two years.

I was just able to order at $90 with free shipping with the holiday sale
Good deal, I was able to nab it for $84. Took about 10-12 days from China. Works good, couple disconnects that I think is from the USB ports being a bit faulty. I haven’t looked into it yet as I rarely drive long distances.

When I plug the wireless charging pad into the USBs the charger will just constantly cycle on and off and effectively not charge the phone. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this or is there an issue with my USB.
I am having the same issue. I went ahead and purchased stuff to get a 15W connection from the fuse box. This and That. Hopefully this fixes the cycling issue.

I must say that the fit and finish of @DirkM design is top notch!

I went with my solution because:
1. You already got my money for the previous version.:)
2. I've been put on a strict mod budget:(
3. I had to move the disc to the rear edge of the shelf to accommodate my new phone's case (it's kinda thick)
By the way, @DirkM's shelf is better than sex...well, not really, but still pretty awesome.
