All, I want to tint my windows, but the local PD would prefer we didn't ?

So my questions are. Can I change the glass in my side windows to darker factory tint? How would I go about it?
This would resolve my tint issue and the local PD can't keep giving me fix-it tickets.

Thanks and have an awesome day!

For as crazy as CA is, they have really restrictive tint laws. Only 70% on front side windows. Manufacturers here in the states only make the front side windows to be about 75%. So you are kind of stuck. As a retired officer, I can't believe they don't have anything more pressing to address than tint.

In Masshole unless your windows are so dark they can’t see inside they don’t bother with you. State inspections yearly they whip out the measuring tool and see what it is. If outside of legal they issue a reject sticker until you get it fixed.

A note from an eye doctor works here in WV , dark as you want them ,that should work in all states really , "light sensitivity " is the issue here , you can and will get pulled over if they are blacked out , but the note saves you... I just don't want the hassle of getting pulled over so I stayed legal on the front...

No tint on the front driver and passenger windows here. Unless you have a medical tint waiver.

Got mine.

Why not just tint the window to the factory %? I know it's CA but they really can do squat if that's legal from the factory.

Luckily here they could care less. The dealer already had tinted mine (dealer order) so they're not as dark as I'd have done them. But my Jeep I went with 18% on the fronts and Limo on the back.

If you want heat rejection, the new ceramic tints can be light, but knock out a ton of heat/uv.
I personally went 15 up front and 30 in the back windows, back had a darker tint already so now its really black. Figure id rather get a ticket than someone peaking inside and seeing something they want.

In Ontario on 2017 or newer vehicles we can't go darker than 70% on the front windows, and nothing on the windshield. Factory tint is very close to 70% on the fronts as is, so it took some convincing to get the tint shop to add a 15% over top of that.

The rears we have no limits, so I added a 5% to the factory which was 35% or so. I also added a fully opaque vinyl wrap to the rear window.

I haven't had it tested, but 15% of 70% is 10.5% on the front, and 5% of 35% is under 1.8% for the rears. Add the blacked out rear window, and dark tinted visors all around, and it's really hard to see in, other than the brightest situations.
