Yeah these are black web brand. This is my 2nd in about 3 or 4 years. They dont last to long in the texas heat. So 60 bucks in just over 3 years or so, ain't too bad i think.

I installed a Thinkware U1000 last year. It's a dual camera 4K unit with great picture quality. Now a days you really need one the way people drive and are so distracted.

Hi Dave,
Is there a live view mode for this while driving? I assume there is but thought I would ask to be sure. A lot of times I have my tailgate down with lumber and my back up camera is useless. It would be nice to see what's behind me when I am loaded up.

Hi Mark,

There's no screen on the dash cam itself to view live. You can connect it to wifi or a hot spot but I'm not sure if you can view it live through that. If you have it connected through either of those you will get instant notifications when the parking sensor goes off and can view the replay on your phone, there's an SD card inside it.

This Viofo A129 has a screen on it but I'm not sure you can view a live feed through it. This one is really nice for the price and was my second choice and I might still get it for my Jeep. You get a lot of features with this for $250.00 and it has really good clarity.

Here's a good video comparing the 3 4K dash cams.

Be careful with the really cheap ones (like $30 range), I have had a few and the cheap Chinese interfaces can make them almost unusable.

When I eventually get around to installing one this will most likely be the route I go. I don't drive a lot... 2200 miles so far in 4 months. But that goes up when I hike up to Northern Idaho. But will be nice to have to capture the odd moments when you can't get your phone out fast enough. Was behind a Taco the other day and the license plate read "1HP".

I have the BlackVue DR750S-2ch. This is connected to a BlackVue B-124 battery pack. I just picked up a bigger memory card so it can record for several days without writing over files. This is the third vehicle I’ve installed it in.

I am using the Viofo A129 in 2 of my vehicles. It does the job and I am happy with it. It has a live screen, but it is way too small to use as a backup camera IMHO. They are mounted up by the mirror and I tend to forget about them, but it is good to know that they are recording, just in case. I like the ability to have it record in a reduced frame capture when parked. That way it doesn't fill up the memory card as fast but is still recording.

I bought the forward camera from Ford accessories with my Ford points. It works good but I found that I needed a larger capacity chip to to record a whole day. Other wise it writes over the older video. You have to take the chip out and install it in a computer to see what is on the chip. It also records the talking of the occupants. Funny stuff.

Just a reminder to some -- A lot of these cameras can have auto loop, so when it's full it will just start over. And don't cheap out on the SD card. Get the micro SD XC to ensure it can handle the dash cam inputs.

And for Camera Garmin

I have a Garmin Mini 2 dashcam. I got it because it was on sale at Best Buy and is really small.
I have the Best Buy total protection service right now because of some other larger purchases I've made, so install was done by them for free.

I'd say video quality is typical for a 1080p dashcam. It's enough to prove the accident wasn't my fault if one was to occur [knocking on wood right now], that's my primary goal.
