I was recently given a used Thinkware DC-m1-FG dash cam that has a ign-3f latching phantom ignition module wired into it. It only has 2 wires power and ground but I can't find any info on where to wire this thing in. Does it just need constant 12v or key on power? and what is the purpose of this ignition module?

I’m installing my dash cam with this adapter this weekend (sorry no link, posting from phone).

I believe most with sentry mode will need to be connected to both constant on and ignition. Although @AzScorpion Dave mentioned that Thinkware is unique. The ignition is to power on the display during driving like my Wolfbox mirror dashcam...and the constant power is to keep the recording running in elapse mode while vehicle is off...

Most Thinkware cams can be connected by an OBD power cable. This makes wiring them super easy.

If it has power and ground, get a fuse tap and use fuse 37 in the fusebox. There's also a bolt to the left of the fuse box that works for ground.

I might just go with a simple 12v cig adapter. I don't use them any way and they are cheaper
That'll work but if you're going to run parking mode the 12v won't work because they shut off. Using the OBD you can run parking mode as it's always hot.

Honestly I am more interesting in using it while off road driving instead of buying a gopro

The Official thinkware obd connector says it wont work with auto stop/start or gateway modules. The ranger has both does the Iroad one work with the ranger?

I had it in my '19 and it worked fine, it was the dash cam that fried out on me. I had the parking module and what's nice is when you're parked in the garage you can just unplug it so you're not recording the wall.

My dash cam is connected by a USB-C connector into the dash cam, then the cable is tucked into the space between the windshield and the truck starting above the dash cam and routed around to the left then in the space at the left end of the dash and down to the (UDB?) port. The other end of the power cable (I special ordered it) had a UDB (do I have those initials right?) connector on the other end. The dash cam is nicely powered by that port. It only took a few minutes and the cable is invisible.

Mine is in at Ford ATM as my driver side window controller stopped working. Has been caused by a fuse tap. Ford said they used to connect them the same way but no longer do because it causes havoc with the electronics of the car.

I wired mine to the BCM fuse no. 2 for constant 12v and fuse 35 for ign. power. Both these fuse slots are spares(not used) so you have less of a chance of something going wrong by using a active circuit to tap into.
