When did Ford start using metric?

I have SAE, metric and Witworth in my rollaway. I have issues.

I had 5 different FOX bodies and also wrenched a lot on a friend’s ‘78 Fairmont. Fastener sizes drove me nuts (?).

I've had a few fox bodies an they are fun (other than the heater core replacement). Are the Witworth sizes the ones you need on the old Triumph motorcycles an cars? I'd love a nice TR6.

My 97 Ranger was mostly metric so it was right around there when they changed over. I remember it well, all set to do some work and WTH! Off to Sears to buy all metric tools. Wrenches, sockets. Then later my buddy mechanic hooked me up with a reseller and got all the impact and deep sockets.

I think I may invest in impact tools, but I don't really want a 55 gallon sized tank. I am not going to be running a shop, but also don't buy junk, so I guess I have some researching to do. I said this 20 years ago, too.

The fasteners on the 2.8 V6 in my '74 Mustang II were metric. Scrapped my knuckles replacing the water pump.

I think I may invest in impact tools, but I don't really want a 55 gallon sized tank. I am not going to be running a shop, but also don't buy junk, so I guess I have some researching to do. I said this 20 years ago, too.

I got a 30 gallon upright that does the job. Takes like 10 minutes to get up to 150 psi. With a 1/2 impact that’s mucho power. Found mine on Craigslist many years ago

As a matter of interest, I had an Opel GT in the early 1970s that had UK Imperial Unit bolts, etc, along with American SAE stuff and metrics (from France). It could be a joy to work on.

I had an 1988 Fox Mustang body was all metric engine was SAE. I am OK with metric but do we need every size 8mm,9mm,10mm,11mm and on and on. skip some like even or odd we don't need that many sizes.

My grandfather had a British motorcycle dealership. He sold Vincent motorcycles. We have a few of them hanging around. The old man has a Black Shadow and I’m restoring a Vincent Comet

I have repeated this a few times. 8mm....5/16 11mm...7/16. 13mm...½" 17mm....11/16. 19mm...¾"
