Having owned a few trucks for a few decades now, I’m now leaning toward it being something that someone tossed in the bed of the truck while walking by. When I didn’t have a canopy/topper on my truck, I’d find all kinds of unwanted items in the back.

Mostly discarded Tim Horton’s cups. ?
No half eaten donuts ? IIRC Tim Horton was being pursed by the police on the QE going over 160km, lived in Buffalo when he played for the Sabres, he in many ways epitomized the old school NHL, rugged hard drinking but very well liked and respected. Used to play hockey in the 70s over in Ft Erie at 2:00 am with a mix of guys, light contact but at least one guy had nhl experience and when he decided he wanted to take control of the game - well he easily did just that.

Now I need to take another look at that picture - maybe it’s a a half eaten Timbits.

The Aussie members are laughing at this because IIRC, to them, Timbits would mean Tim’s balls.

I had to look up what "timbits" were you're right, now I am LOL, I don't know, although doughnuts are popular here, and they look interesting, I just don't know about eating those things.

Probably at least in part because of this great add from back in 1998

Well excuse me for stereotyping you Loonies, but mention of Tim Horton (I used to have a 1/3 share of Sabres tiks) brought back recollections of Jim Schoenfeld - who in his rookie season took on the NHL tough guys, was at the game when he checked Wayne Cashman where the Zamboni comes out, it opened and the 2 hammered each other till bloodied for several minutes, I had a seat with a clear view, but I remember Don Koharski but not the donut incident , sorry if this stuff took place before your time, I never realized the parody in Wayne's World, below from Wiki . I also had a drinking buddy who had a very close resemblance to Jerry Korab - he was a chick magnet in the bars, lol.

Schoenfeld is remembered for an altercation with NHL referee Don Koharski after game 3 of the 1988 Wales Conference Finals after his New Jersey Devils lost 6–1 to the Boston Bruins. During the argument Koharski fell down and falsely accused Schoenfeld of pushing him. As people yelled at Schoenfeld, at least one saying "you're done", believing that he'd pushed Koharski, Schoenfeld continued arguing with Koharski who said he hoped that the entire exchange was on videotape. Schoenfeld yelled back, "Good, 'cause you fell, you fat pig! Have another doughnut! Have another doughnut!" as Koharski and the other officials headed to their dressing room.[2][3] Schoenfeld was suspended by League disciplinarian Brian O'Neill for the following game, but the Devils sought a court order to overturn the suspension. About 40 minutes before the start of the game, New Jersey Superior Court Judge James F. Madden issued a restraining order allowing Schoenfeld to coach, subsequently triggering a walkout by the scheduled game 4 officials: referee Dave Newell and linesmen Gord Broseker and Ray Scapinello. After more than an hour's delay, three local off-ice officials – Paul McInnis, Jim Sullivan and Vin Godleski – were tracked down to work the game. The Devils went on to win the game by a score of 3–1, but Schoenfeld was later suspended for game 5, fined $1,000, his team $10,000, and the officials returned to work.[4]

This incident was parodied later in the movie Wayne's World, when a rather large and apathetic police officer named Officer Koharski hung out at the counter of Stan Mikita's Doughnut Shop. The movie used Stan Mikita's as the name of a doughnut shop, as a parody reference to the chain Tim Hortons. Coincidentally, during the final part of his career, Tim Horton himself teamed on defense with a young Jim Schoenfeld with the Buffalo Sabres. Later, Schoenfeld often paired with Jerry Korab.

At 61, I’m old enough to know the legendary “Have another doughnut “ line. Classic!

I was picking up my daughter from the airport a few nights ago and in the hustle to get a move on and get outta the dreaded red zone, I went to throw her suitcase in the bed where I already had a bunch of stuff. As I was closing the tailgate it had a bit of resistance, and suddenly the tailgate popped off on the RH side and dropped to the bumper. This might have come out of the tailgate or the mounting bracket on the boxside? Or might not even be part of the truck LOL. Appreciate any input.

I think Phil has the number backwards as I see a different number that he did
Either: 0527A - 1527A -527A
I have tried searching (Google) using partial part number that's on it, no luck. I think this came from something other than the truck, Luggage, Chair, Table - (End Cap, Foot, Plug) The annoying and interesting part of this is that (It looks familiar, and I know I've seen that part before)
I regularly have to crawl up into the cargo pits, for inspections and repairs, I see a lot of luggage parts-so I think this is where I've seen it
To me it looks like it was on the ground, and he just happened to be right above it (the damaged end of it) shows it's been stepped on or something or halfway out of original installed position and pushed sideways (damaged tips)
or it came off something that was in the bed (hauling) and slid across bed to remove item (this piece fell of item) and bounced into the (Hole in One) spot on the tailgate (on the bottom edge)
When the tailgate dropped off hinge (part bounced out of (Hole in One) spot

Just a Thought

Sorry to steer this thread back to the OP, but, the fact that puckdodger said the right hand side said the RH side of his tailgate popped off and dropped to the bumper rings a bell. I had the exact same thing happen to my 2022 and there was a piece of plastic that looked just like what puckdodger took a pic of. After that first time, it kept getting worse and worse, the tailgate would pop out of the right hinge and fall onto the bumper eventually every time you closed it, unless you closed it very, very carefully. Also, the tailgate ended up shifted to the left, the gap between tailgate and bed on the driver's side was like a 1mm and on the right side maybe 1/2 inch. The dealer's body shop determined that the hinge was damaged, they even had the Ford rep come out and confirm. The tailgate passenger side hinge was deformed and missing a piece. They repaired it under warranty and fixed the paint scratches. They put on a new rubber top to the bumper because it was scratch.

If you find the RH hinge popping out again the future, I'd bet it is same issue as mine.

Thanks now I wonder what I did with that piece??This isn't the first time the tailgate popped off like that either, it happened once before. I guess I will be careful with it until I know whether it will be an ongoing issue.
