PE, Health for 35 years and I got to add Sports Medicine the last three. PE used to be the best until kids didn't want to do anything or follow the rules of the game. Instead of the admin making the students accountable we had to dumb down a very well organized curriculum to just "keep them moving." 🙄 PE became a punishment for the teachers and a dumping ground for the counselors. Gee I wonder why there are behavior issues???? 🤔 I loved it in the old days when kids were competitive and got into the games. We had almost zero problems and we could actually teach and test skills learned in class. The last ten or more years it was "throw out the ball," which made us all want to 🤮. Oh, well. Not my monkey, not my circus anymore!! Now I have to carry a gun to work! We don't get hardly any problems at the gun range!!😂
We had to learn the rules of each of the sports we would play in PE. Overall, we were graded on skill, knowledge of the rules, and teamwork. Real, measurable stuff - afterall, it was still school, right?

That's what we USED to do. Skills the first week or few days of the unit along with a worksheet and study guide over history, rules and strategies of the game. By the second week we had a round robin tournament and a test over the worksheet. Third week started with skills tests and then finished with a championship tournament/bracket. Bragging rights were on the line and we had.... FUN!!😲 Kids won't do that anymore. At least not enough to run the class that way. I know I sound disgruntled but it's more sad that today's kids are missing out on the satisfaction of bettering themselves and meeting a challenge. Plus, I missed the fun of it all and being able to teach and coach them in class.

During the winter we played indoor hockey and it was only supposed to be for a couple weeks then on to something else. Our Senior year the PE teacher knew most of us were on the Varsity hockey team and let us play pretty much all winter long which was a blast.

Then came dodgeball. That's where you found out who wasn't liked. lol
