Prepping for a dump run! YES FOR THE WIN! =D
And wholly cow, this is the first time I've removed the Swingcases and yikes, that might be it for this dream! =D
One side wasn't too bad at about 40 pounds, but the other was around 60 and my herniated/degenerated back disks and crappy shoulders sure felt each pound (especially taking them out of our clearly poorly-engineered-design flaw of too much rake and too high of a bed!). =p
Also took out my nifty 2.5 gallon gas can (thanks @Grumpaw), because you never know what detours lie in wait on the 1.6 mile dump run, and my avalanche shovel (laugh now you soon-to-be-trapped-in-a-snowbank friends or my workplace-plowed into-your-parking-spot colleagues) , and my chains (because the dump can be a slippery place). =D
there goes 130 pounds of payload capacity!
I had posted a pic of the gas can on the other side and the straps I used, the straps also hold my chains in place (no, never a boy scout, but I'm prepared for the stuff that will never happen)
- if I hadn't thrown my back out, I could of filled this up with fall cleanup twigs and leaves ... =p
- that terrible Ford Ranger rake is clearly visible in this pic ...
- I clip the tarp under my anti-saggy BedRug magnets, they let loose when I roll out the yard waste (7'x9' heavy-waxed 10oz tarp)

And during a hurricane to boot! Well, Hurricane Lee was just a slightly damp and mildly breezy event for us.
I took advantage of Kate's car being at the body shop to let Soupie shelter in place in the garage. No need to get extra acorn dings from this hurricane. =)
Plus no need to let dump stuff get wet and heavier. That Barcalounger* was a good old friend but so far beyond repair with detached springs and a cracked frame. And the lower front Ranger valance is in there along with a 20+ year old printer. Pretty modest load ...
The yard cleanup only yielded two Billy Goat bags worth of stuff, probably should have just put that in yard waste bags for curbside pickup (but they would have gotten wet and that must be extra annoying to the DPW guys picking up wet bags all day long).

Highest object in area IS the lightning rod.Today I drove from the SF Bay Area to the east side of the Sierras and drove a bunch of easy & rough 4wd roads, ending up at 11k feet on Kavanaugh Ridge, where I was going to camp until it started thunder hailing and I eventually decided to retreat to a lower elevation. The Ranger did great, even when I almost crapped my pants because a deep rut had the truck over at a very distressing angle. Rocks, creeks crossings, you name it, zero drama.
The thunder was a ways off and the storm was a surprise. The forecast an hour earlier had said nothing but clouds until the next day. That’s the mountains. ?‍
It could have been worse. If you didn’t have your Ranger, you could have been making the trip home on your Bonneville. ?
