What did you do WITH your Ranger today?

Went out and bought 24 real steel chrome acorn nuts to replace those works of Satan foil covered pretend wheel nuts, that Ford dare to put on a vehicle labeled as "off road" capable.

When I got new tyres just before the Big Red Bash trip in July, the tyre shop warned me that several of them were borderline, and as we're going on a 1,000 km road trip tomorrow, the last thing I want is a roadside flat and being unable to change a tyre because the stupid foil cover chose that moment to let go.

My 20 volt battery rattle gun will see a little action this afternoon! Can't be bothered running out a lead for compressor in the shed to use the pneumatic one for just one small job.

Edit: Job accomplished, had to hammer an impact socket on to several nuts to get them off which considerably extended the job length because I then had to clamp the nut in a vice and wriggle the socket to get them out. But glad to be rid of them!

Then got gas and tried out the nifty 2.5 gallon fuel can that @Grumpaw suggested. It fits perfectly in front of the wheel well and easily straps in with a Velcro strap through the tie down.

I keep about 2 gallons in it, leaving lots of slosh and expansion room, but no leaks.

@Grumpaw has placed his on the side with fuel in it and has no leaks. You can buy gaskets for it if it ever does leak.

It's a small amount of fuel but it literally gives me a little piece of mind. We sometimes go for all day drives up into the White Mountains and there are plenty of gas stations around, but it's nice not to always be staring at the gas gauge or keeping an eye on the fuel economy (LOL, it probably means more driving in Sport mode, and spending more on gas than normal!).

That post also has these straps in it, they are just long enough to go through a tie down and around the tank, but they aren't elastic. They keep it in place though and I just have a folded microfiber cloth acting as padding. I need to just take a piece of rubber and glue it on the can for a more permanent solution.

They do have a nice 5 gallon size but I found the 5 gallon Justrite was heavier than I wanted to deal with for my torn up shoulders and getting it into our tallish gas fill (if I was towing and doing a longer road trip, I'd probably bring that 5 gallon can too).

I need to try pouring the fuel into the truck in this 2.5 gallon can and report back on its use. I do carry this funnel with me as well:

And thanks to you, I've been obsessing about the stoopid sticker on the B pillar (door) of my scab. The window deflectors are double-sided taped to it, but I keep thinking of removing it and I'm a tiny bit worried about the quality of the paint under. I think you said yours was perfect but I believe someone said there was a blemish under theirs. Not that it should matter with all my acorn dents!

Paint under mine was/is perfect. Not sorry I removed it at all.

Last fall I bought a used BakFlip G2 bed cover from a guy who had it sitting in his garage after orthopedic issues made him sell off his Ranger. I finally got it installed this summer. It's head and shoulders over the cheap generic tonneau I got as a sweetener from the dealership -- that cover required regular adjustments as the clamps slipped and made closing the tailgate difficult.

The only flaw in the BakFlip is a few hail dings. The way I roll, I would have banged it up myself before too long.

Ranger took a trip to the North American International Auto Show yesterday. Ranger was all good, light duty, that is it's normal duty.
