Washed out the bed, installed the new bed mat, and replaced the boot on my parking brake.

Bed mat was delivered wrapped up in Paw Patrol paper, which confused Thing 2 a bit.

The brake boot was a bit of a PITA, because as soon as I'd get it stretched over one side of the frame (a cheap, plastic piece, BTW) it'd pop up off the other end. Two hands just weren't enough, so I had to recruit Thing 1 to help. They'll be using it now they're learning to drive, so it's only right they get involved in maintaining the truck, too.

That will make sure to help them keep their own vehicles maintained later on up the road, by helping you keep your truck maintained. IMHO

That bed mat looks great and will be easier on the knees, for sure. Especially with the way you use your rig for trips to and from your place in NC. Moving those totes and all your gear in and out will be a lot better. That Redline boot also looks good. My OEM boot is in “like new“ condition but I‘ve only used it a few times. Lucky for me, it’s flat wherever I park.

Before you pay your local dealer for an oil change or other service, come on over and we’ll show Thing 1 how to maintain your truck in my garage, which is a lot easier than your driveway. They’ll get a driving lesson and a maintenance lesson, all in one shot.

I promise, the tool chests will be well-secured by then.

So you have a bed mat over your spray-in?

All the cool kids, I mean all the older guys with sore knees, are doing it. Not that LaBalbe’s “older” or anything like that. ;)

Not knocking you at all. Just wondering what I would do if I found a deal on close out '25 without factory spray-in.

Not my truck - just engaging with the thread.

W3Liners had a thread about bed liners and some of the members with spray-in liners had rubber mats to keep things from sliding around as well as to have something softer on their knees.

I have a full drop-in liner - my cargo slides all over the darn truck and my knees hate me. 😆

I might take you up on that, although I don't know about the driving lesson part. At the moment, we're still at the "empty parking lot" stage.

Yeah, 1) like @DukeCanBuildit said, it's a bit rough on the knees, which I may have abused a little in my younger days, and 2) when I'm up in the mountains, that spray-in liner will shred the grocery bags with stuff sliding around back and forth in the switchbacks, so I'm hoping that the bed mat will solve that problem. It's probably not doing heavier-duty canvas bags much good either, but it's most noticeable with the grocery bags, and I can't always put them in the back seat.

I have had spray in liners and drop in liners and stuff slides all over the place not to mention the hard on the knees. I put in a Bed Rug over the spray in in this truck. and I had the spray in from the factory.

I've had a rubber bed mat in all my trucks going back 30 years. No matter which one you have stuff is always sliding around and in my F150s I have the bed full of 5 gallon buckets of paint from front to back several times a week. It only took one trip to the store to realize I needed one when they're all over the place around every corner. lol As I got older it definitely helped on the knees especially with a spray in liner. Those are like kneeling on broken glass!

Here in AZ I've never in my life seen so many areas where you'll see paint that's been spilled out into the roads. It doesn't matter which area you're in (Tucson/Phoenix) there's always a huge spot on the roads of paint where you know it fell out the back (many don't have tailgates on) or dumped over inside and leaked out the tailgate. 🤦‍♂️

I fully expect stuff to still slide around, especially on the mountain switchbacks, but hopefully this will limit the bag shredding.

My stuff pretty much stays put with the rubber mat. I've taken some fast corners with materials back there and only the light stuff (brushes, rollers) would move around but the paint cans would stay put.

Of course if you're close to being on 2 wheels then everything's going to be flying around. 😜
