We did Pikes Peak several years ago. Was cool to be above the clouds

Heck I’ve done Mt, Whitney twice, but always wanted to drive Pikes Peak!!
We got stuck in so much traffic up by Ft Collins then again by Colorado Springs it delayed us by almost 2 hours getting here. I wish I had know because I'd love to have driven up there. I just looked on Google Maps and it's 2 hours away from where we are now. Oh well, good excuse for another road trip. ?

I did a lot of contract work for HP out of Ft Collins for a couple of years and my brother used to live there. Many stories, it does clog up around there especially on a weekend like this!! Glad you finally got to your destination!!!

We left Colorado City and headed over to Pagosa Springs via 16/106. What a nice drive and you go through several little old towns and a lot of mountains as you get closer. We stopped at the peak of Wolf Creek Pass and walked up to Lobo Overlook. It's basically a dirt road that was closed because there's still snow at the peak. The base is at 10,877' and the peak was just under 12,000'.

Some views along the drive and some shots of the road which was a fun drive.

Near the top you come to Wolf Creek Ski Resort.

A little way past it there's a parking lot for Lobo Lookout and about 100 yards up from there was another lookout across the street which we might do tomorrow or the next day.

It's a flat easy road but it does get a little steep as you get closer to the top.

We met up with another couple half way up who happened to live in AZ too. Close to the top I found out why the road was closed but I went through it up to the top and they waited down below. I wasn't going that far without making it the rest of the way.

You can see the tower off to the right. Kind of cool since I haven't seen or been on snow in almost 10 years. It was 81* out so this was doable. ?

There were two other trails off the top which take you over the Continental Divide. It would've been fun to hike those.

Colorado is another beautiful state with amazing scenery and the pics don't do it justice! It's so peaceful up there. These pics were taken in front and to the right of the tower.

To the left of the tower there's another small road that leads you up to the lookout. Here you can see forever!

The road down the other side was just as fun as the one coming up. There's several tight hairpin curves and super views which are hard to look at when you're driving.

You come through downtown Pagosa Springs first before heading to the lower part where we're staying. It's a Wyndham Resort and we were lucky to get one right on the lake.
