Wow that is a nice looking truck! That color is awesome, and if you’re getting a good deal AND a powertrain warranty It doesn’t seem like a bad thing. Especially if you already have the bronco to tow, you are pretty much set with everything you would need with a bronco and maverick.

This.

I've made a lot of upgrades to my Ranger, one of the biggest/best being the Bilstein shocks and Tremor leafs.

Right now my Ranger is running the Livernois 87-89 Performance tune and it is noticeably stronger than the Maverick.

It's getting dark out so I'm about to go drive it to see how the headlights compare to my aftermarket LED headlamps.
For me the biggest drawback is the bed size. Even though I’m not using my ranger as a work truck, it’s still nice to be able to fit all my tools back there if/when I need to. I haven’t looked into the capabilities of the maverick when it comes to offroad use but just judging by looks, it doesn’t seem to have nearly as much clearance as the rangers do. For me, that’s a major drawback considering we usually get a decent amount of snow during the winters and the roads around here aren’t plowed often, if at all. (This year we hardly got any snow but that’s uncommon. We usually get 10-12 feet.)

My wife drove a maverick with the tremor package for a few days while her ranger was in the shop. I never drove it but I sat in it and checked it out. It was comfortable but the interior kind of gave me jeep vibes. I guess for some that’s cool but it was a bit of a turnoff for me. She said it drove nice and the ride was smoother than her Fx4, but it definitely doesn’t have the balls that the ranger does. Especially driving up steep inclines or pulling into our driveway.

I really think it comes down to your preference and what you’re using it for. For me, I need something that’ll tow trailers and has enough bed space for whatever the weekend activities are that we have going on. Because we also live in fire country, we both need trucks that we can throw all our stuff in, grab the dogs, hook up the trailers, and GTFO on a moment’s notice. If the maverick checks all the boxes for your needs and you like it, pull the trigger! Worst case you can get rid of it and try something else.

The Maverick looks have been growing on me and the 2025 looks a lot better than the older ones, IMO. It still isn't enough of a truck for me, especially the bed.

That "lifetime warranty" - make sure you read the fine print. You will most likely have to get all maintenance and service work done at the dealer. The one's I've seen were just marketing fluff - do your own oil changes? Miss one service? cancelled..... But you won't know it if/until you need it.

Good luck with your decision!
Lifetime warranty is nation wide and service just has to be documented, not done at the dealer.

As far as the bed size, it's not that much smaller than the Ranger at 4.5 vs 5 ft, and the width is similar.

Add that the Maverick tailgate can be locked into a mid position that aligns it with the wheelwells and it can carry 4x8 sheets flat in the bed.

The bed is much better thought out than the Ranger with multiple tie downs and the moving track tie downs on the side, as well as multiple power outlets.

It's going to depend on the numbers.

If they give me a number I like, I'll probably do it. But I'm not giving away my Ranger to get it.

It comes down to the fact that the Ranger is a truck and rides and drives like a truck.

The Maverick is a car and rides and drives like a car. It just happens to have a cleverly designed truck bed in back.

DZ, this one seems like it really comes down to what phase of life you're in. there are huge pros to either choice. the two trucks are actually similar enough in capability that neither choice offers a lot of downside/regret potential.

i'm not going to make any financial assumptions, but if the maverick better fits your phase of life then it makes sense! the inverse with the ranger is true as well. good luck! i hate car shopping when it isn't forced by necessity lol. too many options.

Nope, if I get this it will STAY completely stock.

I won't do anything that could possibly jeopardize that lifetime warranty.

Oh, a couple of other pluses that you can't even get on the Ranger...

Heated steering wheel. Mmmmmmmmm....

Power sliding rear window.

This has the sunroof, and with the sunroof open and the rear window open there is a very nice airflow through the cabin.
That power sliding rear window would be nice, and the lifetime powertrain warranty is BIG, but the heated steering wheel would be the decider for me. I was really disappointed we couldn't get it on the 5g.

On a separate note, I often seem to notice Mavericks coming towards me at night appear to have their bright lights on although them probably don't. They seem to have unusually bright headlights. It surprises me that I actually notice it that often. 👀

@Dr. Zaius, for decisions like these, I like using a "pro-con" chart like this one:
1777210206121-ia.webp

So, in this case, the impulse would be "trading the Ranger for the Maverick"
- In the top left corner, you list all the reasons that making the trade is a plus
- In the bottom left corner, it's all the reasons the trade is a minus
- Top right corner is all the reasons NOT making the trade is a plus (not necessarily the same as BL corner)
- Bottom right is all the reasons NOT making the trade is a minus (again, not necessarily the same as TL corner)

You (and your wife - optional) assign a numerical value from 1 (low) to 5 (high) to each reason, add them up for each quadrant, then it's TL minus BL vs. TR minus BR and you compare the tallies for each side; whichever side is higher is the winner. It'll give you a clear, objective analysis of what's your best course of action.

If you like it enough that it meets your needs go in hem haw on how your not sure if you want it, then shoot them a good price that you have to have for the Ranger. Might drive home in a nice Blue truck. Love the color.

Edit: If the appraiser want's it as is he has it sold already. Make him work for it.

Wife has weighed in her opinions:

She doesn't like the color.

She thinks my Ranger interior is nicer.

She likes the quieter exhaust.

Sitting in the sun, the ActiveX seat material gets hotter than the leather in my Ranger (maybe due to the ActiveX being black and my Ranger being cream colored).

A few more things I'm noticing:

Digital gauges suck. Analog FTW.

Push button parking brake sucks. Parking brake lever FTW. I experienced one instance where the parking brake wouldn't release. It said it was released on the screen but the truck wouldn't move. Shut it off and try again and the brake released. 🤔

When the tailgate is down, the sides of the bumper still exposed are curved so you can't use the bumper as a step.

This has the B&O sound system. It sounds OK but looking at the sub behind the seat, it looks like a bargain basement Sparkomatic subwoofer.

At this point it would have to be a REALLY good number for me to trade.

I am very glad they let me have it for a bit as some of these things wouldn't really be that noticeable on a 30 minute test drive.

Wow Dennis I saw the parts listed and had you pegged for a Raptor... I really like that Mavrick but I would get one for better mileage so I would opt for the hybrid loaded like that.

Just my 2c good luck with your decision!

I would wait on buying a small pick up.....rumors of the new Subaru pick up may be true, and if it does come out, will put the Mavrick and Hyundai to shame....
Possible 2027 intro.....maybe.....hopefully !!!!!!

Thanks!

I'm not really interested in a 6G though. It's too big. I find the 5G already a bit too big.

Regarding the hybrid AWD, there are no bargains yet to be found on those. This one is a new 2025 leftover so it has a big discount.

The sticker on this truck is $42K+. There is NO WAY this truck is worth $42K. If you look closely, you can clearly see where costs are being cut on it.

I would LOVE a new Baja..

I had a Baja Turbo and would be first in line for a new one.

And the 10R80 issues pale compared to the DCT issues of the Santa Cruz.

I understand it will be a EV platform if built. I'm guessing probably using the new EV Forester drivetrain.
