Rick @Trigganometry is 100% correct. If there had been a previous crash or other incident at that location, and if the city, county or state did not properly mitigate the hazard, then they can be held responsible. Check with the jurisdiction that is responsible for that roadway and see if there had been any previous incidents at that location. Look for any crashes or disabled vehicle calls that might have occurred prior to your incident. Broken down trucks with diesel spills, hydraulic fluid leaks, etc, have caused many an unsuspecting crash. If there is something there, turn it over to your insurance. Your dash cam video should help your case, (even though I cant actually see it because it won't play.)

so i got a quick min to look it over before dark and more rain last night. It does not look bad at all. rear bumper and the trim and a back up sensor are trash and a small dent and scratch on the bed side from the sign. right rear and front tires leaking from some place, i assume from getting hit broadside by the median curb and rocks instead of going over it on the tire tread. (hopefully not bent rims etc.) tiny scratch on tail gate and all the error messages and service lights shut off after sitting parked. rear diff is leaking from bottom edge, it must have hit the curb at some point in the bouncing. didnt have time to look at the front end suspension. im assuming at least an alignment is in order since the front tires also got the sideways curb action lol. Im feeling pretty fortunate. The road sign post met the back of the truck right where the frame and trailer hitch setup attach behind the rear bumper (tried to show pic of that). so instead of messing up the body of the truck or bed floor etc. all the impact hit the most sturdy spot on the rear of the truck! another foot to the right and it would have been sheet metal. i have not driven it more than out of the garage to look but as far as visible damage im happy it was pretty minor! the front steering was really heavy and transmission was shifting kinda grumpy on the way home so maybe that was the computer flipping out and not actual damage.. taking it to shop thursday.

Glad it's not as bad as you first thought it was. See what the shop says but if it's only those few thing you might want to just pay out of pocket and get a better aftermarket rear bumper. Good luck tomorrow.

a lot of the aftermarket bumpers are cheaper than the oem i bet. im not a rough country fan but the rear ranger bumper they have for 699 looks pretty nice. has steps built in, back up lights and does not get in way of the factory tow stuff. that may be what i do.

got the initial estimate from a body shop i trust today. 7500. not great but not terrible. they expect to find more issues once they dig into suspension and alignment stuff. I hope parts are in stock for repairs. id be so annoyed if i have to wait months and months paying car payments but cant drive it! lol. i emptied the truck out of all my recovery gear and tools etc. that stay in the truck. I think my miles per gallon will go up by two or three. Forgot just how much gear I had in it.

stopped by the body shop today. trucks making progress but still has several days to go. so far they are doing a good job. of course with parts in short supply and skilled employees its taking longer than normal. good news is the alignment folks said nothing was too far off or damaged except one leaf spring set up. they had new tail gate skin on and bed side and fender fixed and ready for paint.
