Hey folks,

Noticed a weird button today. I’m the first owner, so shouldn’t be anything after market.

It’s a 2021 Ranger Lariat Tremor.

Any clue what this does? Right next to the hood release. Red and black wire going back into the dash.

I've never seen that. Is there any kind of aftermarket alarm the dealer installed?

I am first owner, no accessories. It’s a Tremor, so I have the switches on the dash for aftermarket accessories.

I did indeed push it, nothing happened that I could notice.

Since you are the original owner, it must be something the dealer installed (Alarm as Dave suggested or a tracking device?) The install looks sloppy. If it were me, I would return the truck to the dealer and insist the device be removed and the plastic piece be replaced because of the holes. This is assuming that you don't want whatever the device is used for. I don't really see a button as part of the device.

Hope they can. Gonna stop in and have an ask. Never noticed it before but my truck was just in the service department.
My driver inside handle is failing. The metallic coating is peeling off.

Yeah I am pretty sure that's an anti theft device. Dealer installs it so thieves don't steal them off the lots. They deactivate them when they sell it to the customer. Only reason I know is because a few years back I bought a new car and when I took it home, the next day I tried to start it and it wouldn't start. Called the salesman and he said he forgot to deactivate the anti theft device. He had me download an app, connect via Bluetooth, enter a password and disable the device. Under my dash I had a device that looked very similar to that.

Makes sense, but surely they wouldn’t screw it into the dash….would they?

Pay peanuts, get monkeys? It's a bit rough if they have!
