Most of the time the when I try to call a phone number using voice command - the voice command system is using the Ford voice command but occasionally the voice command uses Siri (iPhone is being used) rather than the Ford command system. I prefer Siri since it appears to be quicker to respond.

Does anyone know why voice command voice calls would sometimes use the Ford command system and other times Siri? In both situations my iPhone is connected via Bluetooth

Thanks

I’m going to bet the difference is whether or not your phone is plugged in.

A quick press and release of the button goes to the built in VR, a long press and hold (~3 sec from memory) goes to Siri.

Side note. If you want to "speed up" the SYNC side, turn on Advanced Mode in Settings -> Voice. Gets rid of the "Please say a command" prompt and shortens or eliminates others.

It depends on if the people at siri are listening to your conversation at the time. Lol

I’ve noticed while making calls when my iPhone is plugged in. People have a hard time hearing me. I believe it’s using the iPhone microphone and not the trucks. Anyone else have this problem?

Interesting...the system in the Ranger is WAY better than the one in my old ā€˜13 Escape and I’ve had two people tell me they can’t hear me as well despite me hearing them infinitely better.

I'm surprised so many folks didn't realize this is how all connected voice systems work. Some vehicle OEMs had it set up (maybe still do) that a failed command went to a human being to be transcribed and sent back to the system. Ford added the ability to send in failed commands along with the diagnostics on v3.4, though there it's opt-in and the opt-in is buried in the analytics and diagnostics settings. To my chagrin I doubt many will ever find it, though it's the best way to improve the system. Hence why Apple, Google, Amazon et al do it.

Yea when I talk on my phone when driving I have to disable apple car play or else they complain that I sound distant. Since my phone is in the cup holder. No complaints when using it without apple CarPlay. Sound quality is great. At least that’s what the wife says.

When I get mine back...or, hopefully, when I get a new one...I’ll try this out; thanks!
