I could be wrong but allowing an engine to 'breathe' fuel and oil fumes into the air probably violates emissions regulations. Isn't that the purpose of PCV system?
Definitely. This is by default an 'off-road only' part (wink wink) that no one in CA will ever get to use. No tailpipe sniffer will detect it, only a visual inspection would. I'd get one that looked as 'factory' as possible.

Where it will fit is the biggest problem. Back near the brake booster/firewall? You can see the catch can between the battery and front already.

Going back to the Parker Performance video the vented remote oil tank doesn't seem like a difficult project - they use a 90Β° adapter in place of the oil cap and a hose to the valve vented breather tank. From a design standpoint I don't know if the height of the tank/can is important but actually mounting it somewhere in the engine bay may be the most complicated thing.

It could be restored to stock by simply removing the adapter and slapping the oil cap back on.

Clearly an off road part, I don't know specifically who would benefit from doing this (aside UPR selling the hardware) unless you have some crazy motor build or travel up and down extreme elevations/barometric changes? The low tension rings and high compression ratio with just a tune might be minimal although if there is some perceived refinement in performance it would be interesting.

New turbo, big downpipe/exhaust might validate pursuing it.

Just seems like a bad idea for so many reasons.

Just a bump. I was thinking of this mod as a future experiment but didn't want to sink a ton of $ into it.

There is definitely pressure in the upper engine (remove the oil cap while it's idling and hold your hand over it) and even UPR pointed out a lot of oil gets splashed around. I'm still thinking this would extend engine life even if it adds maintenance to the truck like the catch can. The only source for the oil cap adapter (with vent) I've found seems to be UPR (maybe Earl's) and I don't 100% know if it is a direct fit in the Ranger.

From there I'd cheap out (for now) and just find an inexpensive baffled pressure valve vented catch can and use a single port on it, capping the outlet - relying on the vent. There seem to be a plethora of them out there. I think it will be something I'll tinker with in the spring.

I am running the CFM Performance valve cover vent with no catch can

Every 500 or so miles I change the wrist-sized sweatband I have over the filter. Keeps everything clean and $10 for a 24 pack on Amazon

I'm curious if there is any difference with or without?

@importfighter01 looks like yours is for sale - in fact a lot of parts from you are showing up in the sale section. Are you changing up?

Yes sir! Needed a bigger option for a growing family. Traded in my 2020 Ranger XL SuperCab with 27k mi for a 2022 Ram 1500 Classic SXT crew cab with 16k mi for the same payment thanks to equity and Ranger value holding well in my area. As I was once told, the best thing about a Dodge is that it depreciates faster than any other brand, so getting a lightly used one was a win for me (also looked at a new Titan too since my wife’s ride has had good long term experience with the 5.6 drivetrain). No regrets on the 5G Ranger, however I still miss my 99 Ranger over my 2020 Ranger. ?

Update did some mileage testing with and without the UPR valve and seems like I lose about 1.5 miles per gallon using the UPR vent valve in my normal everyday driving

That's an incomplete post sir, with that in mind... what do you do?

For me, who's planning on keeping this truck long term, a little mileage loss is worth the crank case being able to vent excess pressure. It's a forced induction motor. We know there's blow by, we know there's pressure in the upper end of the motor, and over time that's extra stress on the gaskets.

I'll pay a little more at the pump each time, that's easier to cough up, than having an entire head gasket replaced, or a rear main sale redone. Those are bigger chunks of money.

Not to say that's something plaguing these trucks, we've got several members over 100k. If you want to make 150k or 200k though, little stuff like this can factor in as those gaskets and seals all over the place start aging.
