Looking at sending out a turbo for a larger wheel. Have read some promising posts by members using the CRP 54mm turbo. Just wanted to ask if any of the tuners/members have used this with any luck. Looking at the data on here it appears the 54mm does not give up much if any in the lower end. I can’t imagine the 57mm making a drastic difference ( excessive lag ) while promising a bit better flow up top north of 5k.
With the 10 speed trans, all wot runs are shifting between 5250-5850 placing the upgraded turbo in a very sweet spot.
Just wanted to post this up in the event anyone has or knows someone with this setup. Would love to hear your results.
Thanks, Keith

Keith nice post, although I have not done anything to my Ranger yet, there is a ton of interest in swapping out the turbo. Keep us all informed on this. Good luck with your build!

@DevilDog1775 can shed some insight - he's got the stage 3 turbo from them with full bolt ons to support.

looking at the data, I'm seeing roughly a 6lbm/min increase in airflow. should translate to roughly 40 hp over the maxed out stock turbo but we will see if it pans out. You'll want do an intake and exhaust with the turbo.

Before you swap the turbo out for the bigger ones you need to think about what your intentions with the truck are. Are you trying to get the best 1/4 mule time? Are you towing on a regular enough basis? Do you like going offroad? How often are you really in the throttle that you need power at the top end? These are things to consider. I wont argue that the 2 different turbos may be nice but is it going to benefit you and your truck? If you tow at all and go offroad I would suggest not doing the swap. Instead i would suggest other things like an intercooler(keep the power for longer periods of time), cat back exhaust, cold air intake and a tune. That is my input on this. You do what you feel is best for your application but I figured you needed to hear this before you spend money on something that could hurt you and the truck.

Or you could do all of that. That’s what I did, but I did the turbo last. Man, it’s a lot of fun. Having an intent to use the truck for fun is just fun. And part of the fun is working on it and sharing the tasks with your son or some buds. If money is a constraint, you get more smiles from the exhaust and down pipe. I have a Roush intake but it doesn’t seem much better if at all from a k&n drop in. But the turbo is fun!
I don't think you understood what I was saying there. I won't doubt that all of that combined with a Turbocharger would provide some nice results. The main thing is the turbocharger could being negative affect on the truck depending on what he is going for. That is what I was stating. It has already been mentioned that you lose low end torque and Gain a lot in the high-end. Now you're probably wondering where is that going to make a difference. Well if you're in the drag races probably not so bad. Here's the issue if it's going to be Towing. When you are Towing you are more focused on your low to mid-range power versus your top end. Also when you're focusing on Maxine up power on your vehicle that is Towing you can actually overheat when you're having to go through any kind of hills here in the United States. This is actually pretty common to see in the Rockies no matter which state you're in. That is why I'm stating to ask yourself what you're doing with the truck before you just put the turbocharger on. All the other additions would not give the same negative effect a Turbocharger would.
