Recently had the 460 in my pristine 93 F250 rebuilt, I am aware its a flat tappet cam engine and used the break-in oil with high zinc content to break in the new cam, all is well, but is it actually required to keep using this oil or a zinc additive in subsequent oil changes? The cam should be well hardened and broke in by now? It seems everyone out there driving older cars with flat tappet cam engines should have destroyed their engines by now since they eliminated zinc in almost all dino and synthetic oils? As I approach a 3rd oil change, im.getting hesitant about dropping $12 bucks a qt. for Joe Gibbs racing oil!

It more comes down to running a good quality oil that doesn't skimp on the manufacturer specification. I would do some looking. Perhaps get ahold of Motul and see what they offer for what you have? No promises that they have exactly what you want, but it's a good shot.

When I am working on older classic cars and trucks, I will us the Valvoline VR1 10w30 motor oil as it has the right amount of zinc in it from the et go,no adding anything else to it.

This is the best solution. Comes in synthetic and non synthetic. I always stuck with non synthetic for my 69 Camaro.
