They get us coming and going. Off the subject somewhat, but same principle: I purchased a Deer Park single 16.9 ounce bottle yesterday for $2.38, same price as a soda. Then I thought about it, I buy a case of 35 (exact same thing) for $7, which means the same bottle is 20 cents each. I understand supply and demand, bulk versus single, etc., but this sums up how these companies rob us.
Your just now figuring this out ???
Resteraunts charge $2-$3 for a soft drink that costs them maybe 10 cents. A cuppa what resteraunts call coffee (I call flavored swill)is $2 bucks....costs them maybe 10-15 cents, and costs me 25 cents to grind my own beans and make a full pot.
There are maybe 6-8 predominate oil companies that refine motor oil. They will market it as their own, like Shell/Mobile/Exon, ect. But they will brand it under different names for sellers and bottle it as the name brands you see on shelves. Smaller companies refine and sell oil to companies like Costco, much cheaper, but just as good quality wise for much less than national brands.
A little research can go a long way...
For the past year I have been using Costco brand Kirkland synthetic oil in the Ranger and wife's Subi, changing both every 5000 miles...and have not noticed a bit of difference over using "the high priced spread". A case with two 5 quart jugs runs around $32-$36....half the price of the brand name stuff.
I use Motorcraft filters, but do not and never have had an oil analysis done.....and have never had an engine fail.

Cross threaded is just torqued good.
What about missing bolts and failing to inform me?

While I'm standing there telling them if they need any I have a bag of spare parts in my hand...

?

Thanks for the reminder, I gotta get my garage cleaned today so I can change the oil in both our vehicles this week...

Its more work for them to tell you than to pretend like its fine. I've had words with my dealer and... it never changes. They just don't install all the bolts.

I am going to start my own oil changes.

Did my first change in the Yeti and it was like $46 worth of materials for premium stuff and not even shopping around, just getting what I wanted as conveniently as possible.

I'm going to shop around a bit for next time now that it's done and see if I can source the oil locally a bit cheaper. Found a place to knock a few bucks off the filters but if I buy 12 I won't need more for like a decade ? at the rate I'm putting miles on this rig

That just means less for them to have to remove' n replace next time, saving them (but sadly not you) time and money.
