The key is to respect yourself more than what an Individual who lives in a HOA does.

I'd rather be homeless than live in a neighborhood than can fine you for having the wrong color mailbox. People like that are absolutely fucked.
And if you get tangled up with them you are too.

It looks like my wife and I may be relocating from Marietta, GA to Boca Raton, FL - and because of that we've started looking for a home on Zillow. Most of the homes we've looked at are in HOA/country club communities, and I've started poking around and reading some the HOA rules. One home we liked had an HOA rule of no trucks, vans, commercial vehicles in the driveway - including non-commercial pick-up trucks. So it looks like I need to measure the overall height of my truck and bring a tape measure with me to Florida when we look at homes. Arghhhhhhhhh.

Anybody here with a lifted Ranger able to cram their Ranger into their garage? I have a 3.5" lift and RTT mounted!!!!! I don't think mine fits in my current home's garage.

Another issue you may face is the driveway angle. I was unable to get my truck in my garbage was due to the steep driveway.
pulling in the elevation of my truck is hight at one end to the the angle.Hope this make sense.

After I saw how flat south Florida is, I don't think that's an issue! LOL

So we toured some neighborhoods and there are definitely some HOAs that are truck friendly and some that are not. Even more worrying is my wife just found out that some HOAs have restrictions on what type of dog you can own in the neighborhood! We have a (very, very old) German Shepherd and a Pit-bull/Hound dog mix. That could be problematic!!!!!

standard garage hieght door is 7'. looks like you might squeeze in maybe. The real question is length. Most garages are barely 20-22' interior length. Door opening is only a part of the issue, making sure you have a long enough garage to park siad truck and walk around it is another story.

those HOA country club cookie cutter homes? bar minimum length to put a small car in. you might be able to squeeze in the truck, but opening the doors, etc inside will be a pain.

I would find another community/area.
I have a 2020.. 2.5 level..33 in tires..20x20 garage here in south Florida 7 ft door..easy fit..2 ft in front of tuck with door closed

Mine fits no problem with 3.5" lift and 33's. And it will be fine when I go to 35's. You should be fine.

I haven't seen one here which restricts dogs. My advise is stay even farther away from one like that. Sounds like our government now wanting to control every aspect of your life.

Never live in a community with HOA Nazis. You will never be happy.

Rule one about ANY HOA, don't do it! I speak from vested experience...
1. They have deeper pockets - their lawyer will win.
2. Leadership (The Board) is constantly changing, and with it, the rules and how they are enforced - subjective, not objective.
What one member will tolerate, another will not, you know the one that measures lawns daily and files a complaint at an overage of a mil?

Advise you look at what FL and local government provides as a Bill of Rights or similar, for the membership as owners.

Do go to the HOA and review their "current" covenants and by-laws. Better yet, attend a Board meeting to get the current atmosphere and temperment of the leadership members. Review past meeting minutes.

Anything is waiverable, but language must be specific and address "how long" the waiver is good for.

Now, back to the basic rule of ANY HOA... best of luck!

I don't know that you can go to an HOA meeting if you're not an actual homeowner.
The community I serve does not allow that.
Pretty sure the community I live in doesn't either. Zoom links are sent to owners only.

I live in a 900 sq ft condo. These are apartment style buildings. The rules an board aren't bad at all. The one single thing they really push an I agree with is the no smoking in common areas. Hallways, laundry rooms an entrance ways. Since the condos are fairly small it's mostly older couples, people living alone (like me) an younger couples just starting out without kids. It's very quiet an convenient to me. There's a one dog not over 40 pounds rule because of the size of the units an to keep the noise down. 99% are owner occupied.

Everyone here pretty much stays out of everyone's business so the board works out ok. Live an let live unless it's causing a problem. We had a young kid who's grandma passed an left her condo to him. He was a little loud an obnoxious but after a few complaints he settled down. One guy has 3 husky's that he rescued but they are quiet an well controlled an he cleans up after them so no one complains.

Good boards do exist but I bet they are the exception, the rule is probably nosey busy bodies trying to push others around.

Sounds like you're doing good research an shouldn't have a problem.

They should make an exception, that's not just a pickup truck! That's an exceptional bug-out survival badass of a Ranger!

Give your HOA a headache and get something like these. Park it outside and tell em it's only a golf cart, and per HOA rules, it's legal.

No not all aren't but one thing to keep in mind is they change frequently. Plus there's the HOA which is made up of homeowners in the community and then there's the management company. They're the ones who will be driving around and sending you notices.

In the 6 years I've lived here the board members have changed 3 times and the management company twice. The original ones were very good and didn't nit pick little things but now it's like living in a concentration camp. You do get to vote in new board members but you have no say when it comes to the management company and that's the important one. They're the ones who can and will make your life a living hell!

Just for the record I keep my yard spotless but when we have a summer like this past one where it rained a lot weeds are going to pop up. I spray them every weekend and they don't die on the spot yet I'll still get a notice with a picture of a weed while my neighbor has a boat and his commercial plumbing truck in his driveway.
Plus there's enough graphene rinsed off your truck onto your driveway that no one can walk up it.
