This is all disinformation, no one knows anything about you, that's why you need to
put the same info over & over & yr after yr, again & again when filling out goverment/financials
forms.

Truck has a cell modmodem, it doesn't need a WiFi connection to send data. Wait till you find out about the data every website, you ISP and your cell provider are collecting
Interesting, thanks. How did you find that the vehicle has a cell modem? (Maybe that's in the manual and I missed it)

Thanks all. To those asking why protecting data is important, when it may not be considered important data:

In my view, any of my data (like vehicle location) is still my business.
In general, it's indeed probably somewhat innocuously used -- for now -- aside from being monetary taken advantage of.

If government isn't going to protect privacy rights, my view is that it's to our collective long-term benefits to do so whenever possible.
1984 isn't far-fetched, given china's Social Credit System, the USA's evolving Credit Score, etc.

Agreed that there are many other methods (browsers, CCs, etc) used to track, which further underlines the point that individuals would need to be responsible for their own exposure along multiple avenues.

Personal driving data is one such avenue, hence this question...

The modem on the Ranger is up high in the passenger footwell (I know because mine is busted and shows no ESN in sync). You can unplug it if you don't want it sending any data.

I saw on the 2020 models that there is Ford Connect. It automatically tracks your data unless you specifically opt out.

To expand on what some of you have mentioned, is there a way to delete personal info before taking to a shop where they can download data even if FordPass is turned off? (and the modem unplugged)

Can ForScan do that?

It's concerning that the privacy policy allows phone numbers, names, addressed, gps history, etc to be downloaded.
Perhaps there's a way to delete just that personal data, while keeping the valuable engine data.

My experience with Ford pass is short since we just got our Ranger a couple months ago.

We turned on Ford pass location tracking because our son borrowed the truck. It showed us where the truck was parked overnight and that was it but we didn't look inyo it any deeper.
Another time my wife found the "where have I been" history and that showed actual driving patterns and speed comments regarding going slower for better gas mileage.
BUT, for the tracking history on the day that I drove the truck, the where have I been history did not show where I drove the truck but instead showed where her phone went during the day.

So it seems to me that the Ford pass uses both the phone and some sort of GPS sensor in the truck. Perhaps the GPS sensor only shows basic static location?

If you want to have a bit of fun, go HERE and see what's up with your internet.
I broke that page with my NoScript add-on. Very cool add-on. Mostly for annoyances - goodbye animations and overlays, but there are some privacy benefits also. I'm a data collector's worst nightmare. You guys should check it out. NoScript can be set up to selectively trust some domains that you want to be able to run javascript on your computer.

This is all Firefox btw.

There are times however I evaluate my will to keep my privacy with my want of the features offered. I do give up some privacy to use Fordpass.

I usually use the Disable Javascript to bypass the "We Noticed You're Using An Adblocker So PLEASE Whitelist Us" prompts.

These pleading popups are almost as annoying as the "Updated Our Cookie Policy" prompts.

I think you have to pay to activate the modem. Plus.monthly fees. It's AT&T and I have AT&T cell with unlimited data so it was useless to me. Now if I change providers next month when I buy a new phone I may eventually turn it on. All they are is an air card aka hockey puck we have used at work in the car for years.

During the trial of the car's wifi data plan I did find that it got better signal than my phone did. I looked at adding a WeBoost antenna to it but ATT couldn't combine it with my regular cell bill through them. I'm not going to pay two bills and all of the regulatory fees twice.

Has anyone been able to get it consolidated with their ATT account?

I'm reading the manual (the engineer in me) and in the first few pages you can read about data collection, transmission, ford pass, and over the air updates.... in a nutshell if you don't use ford pass they can't read some of your data. you also don't get updates but you would get them when your ranger goes for service. I believe there are three systems collection data on our rangers.
