It would throw an APIM code, and stop working properly (most likely). My wife's Edge stopped working properly, and all I did was swap it with the exact same part number.

There needs to be a dim button next to the "+" button when the backup camera is active.
Would it make a difference being a ranger? Seeing as how it comes with a cap in case you take the tailgate off, it should be able to run with the camera off right? And yes if there was a dim button on the camera, I would have no problems.

I know right. If they would just allow the darken button to work in reverse, that would be A ok with me.
I would be happy to have this darken button... The european or outer us version of sync3 seems to be a complete mess. If i want to turn the display off, I have to go through 5 ... FIVE ... menu points... after every start of the car :sunglasses:
this, together with the start/stop issue and the much too loud PDC noise  cā€˜mon ford thought you could do better in the meanwhile!

Edit made some typo

Try dash dimmer at night. I want a switch to turn on camera when going forward, to check my boat. I dont notice the camera when looking at my mirrors. Many years of using mirrors I have to think twice to use the camera. A lot of things take a while to get used to.

Dash dimmer doesnā€™t effect the screen when the camera is on, unfortunately

Until you can get an actual hardwired fix, how about buying a car side window sunshade sticker and cut it to size to fit on the backup screen? It's only $10 on Amazon. Here's a link: https://www.amazon.com/Lecone-Perfo...=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B07D9D5T91
But if it is sunny aaand I exceptionally need to use the system I couldnā€˜t see a thing unless I am in a tunnel...

I can tell you. The design mistakes they do to this car make me ask what the real job of this guys was. Seems everything what was good on the 2aw in my opinion was though by mazda designers:crying:

I thought about making a fancy little curtain to go over it lol. Iā€™m just surprised none of fordā€™s design team considered this issue
THATS the best idea ever. I already have this tassles on top of the windscreen like the arabs have. A fancy curtain like in a opium den would be the burner!

So I have decided that I am going to attempt to make a breakout harness where the tailgate harness connects, and run a switch up to the dash for my backup camera. Now that my windows are tinted itā€™s almost impossible to back up at night. Needless to say Iā€™m pretty frustrated that ford didnā€™t even think about this being an issue. As soon as I get ahold of a factory plug and a wiring diagram Iā€™ll post how the project goes.

This method almost worked for me. As soon as there's slight backup braking pressure the damn thing falls off. I like the idea of attaching a tether to a weighted block on the dash pocket then tie that to the back loop of the hat. :sunglasses: I definitely agree with the issue though, the LED lights almost totally blowout the screen making it nearly impossible to see out the side. Some of us still know how to use our mirrors for backing. :headbang:

I like the way you think, but there has to be a better way. Itā€™s just ridiculous that we have to resort to this to back up at night

Agreed. It should dim equally with the display setting. It know when the lights are on so... it should follow.

Same frustrating issue with CarPlay apps such as Waze.

Hi Rob,

You are correct All vehicles under 10,000 lbs must have a backup camera starting in May of 2018. Looks like disabling the camera is not an option.

Hi John,

No help on disabling the chime warning. It might be in Forscan but my knoledge of Forscan is nil as I do not choose to venture into that arena as my knowledge stopped in the days of Hexadecimal changes.
