Anybody remember the good ole Chevy Powerglide 2-speed?
And think skipping 2nd and 4th is bad. That low to drive was murder.

Not the way I recall it, I thought our old '68 Impala was pretty smooth. In fact, my mom had to point out when it shifted because I could hardly tell.

Ford acknowledged the problems via TSBs and apparently have a plan to redesign/fix it plan soon like GM already did for the 2023 with the 8L90. Sample size or not....

The 10R80 has problems. Problems that are not just in people's heads or "trucks should drive like crap" sort of thing.

The fact this group is small relative to the number out there and so many have issues or complete failures is a bit of a problem IMO. That or all our online trolling is creating bad truck karma...

All that said. I swear everyone is building crap transmissions these days... especially with trucks. So many of the same complaints if you search around for something to swap too... so it's like throwing the dice with almost any if you get a good trans or a grenade. I sort of feel like mine has the pin pulled but no idea on the fuses timing....

I am almost throwing up saying this but the Ram seems to be the least complained about for transmissions... but they cheated with a ZF unit.
And to think, now that Ford has redesigned the CDF drum in 23+ 10R80, the new 6G will get the new 10R60 trans. I wonder what kind of trouble will come with that one?

Awaken the next problem they didn't address.

I’ve had 3 vehicles with the ZF8, they were all buttery smooth. Never felt anything. I wish the Ranger had the ZF8
This. The ZF8 in one form or another is in probably over 100 different cars across a bunch of different brands. If it had problems, they're sorted by now and I believe it to be the gold standard of high gear count auto boxes at the moment.

Right? That was one of the draws of the Ranger when I bought mine. A powertrain that should have been well and truly sorted and an under-stressed transmission.

I'm not thrilled with the Bronco's getting the 10R60 since my wife is wanting one.

To be fair, I'm one of those that aren't having any problems with my 10R80 @40K+ miles.

I would feel some kind of way towing our travel trailer with more power and a 10R60 though.

Just watched a video on a 2019 F150 with ten speed shifting issues. He stated the Ford tech disabled the transmission adaptive ability to learn on the transmission, this seem to fix 90% of his issues. The tech did it right in the drive up at the dealership.
Can this be done on a Ranger, anyone try this. ?
I saw the video also. It is for a 2018 Ford F150 with 10R80

Those of you who plan on disabling this, when do you plan on doing it? After its ran the process of adjustment and when its working perfect? or are you just going cold turkey and shutting it down at whatever its at at that time and hoping for the best?

Ideally, it would be great to get some detailed scientific data, but we will just have to toss the dice and see what happens thousands of miles later.

Keep us informed. This is either going to make Ford embarrassed, or a whole bunch of owners out some rebuild money

So how does this work on a new truck off the line ? Does Ford take them out one by one and go through all that shifting and waiting and accelerating ? Is it part of the dealer prep ? Is it even real or necessary ?

No, it's done as you drive.
