This is the first automatic I have ever owned that will start without depressing the brake pedal. I remember some on my dad’s cars and trucks from the 70s doing that. I thought it was a safety issue so not to start the vehicle in gear and have it move.
Maybe modern Rangers won’t start in gear so not need to depress the brakes?
It will not shift without depressing the brake pedal nor will the key come out without it in park.

Keyed cars start without the brakes, it's just that they will not go into gear without the brake pressed. The key will go in and out without pushing the brakes too.

Push button cars will not start without the brakes because it's easy to bump the button on accident. I keep a stick in my wife's car so I can start it from the passenger seat. I had always though I'd install a second button to "Fake press" the brake pedal so I didn't have to lean over, but a stick is much easier than messing with the brake wires :)

It's normal, don't worry about it.

every automatic I've ever had will start without the brakes as long as it's in park. I remember starting several cars from the passenger side on cold days while grabbing the ice scraper.

manuals, on the other hand, should definitely not start without the clutch being depressed, unless they have a specific bypass switch.

My 88 BMW is a manual and does not have a clutch override switch...the engine will crank, even if it's in gear. Every other car I've had, being manual did have a clutch override switch (Ford, Hyundai and Subaru). My truck parks on a slight grade so I usually set the parking brake anyway, but knew about not needing the brake pedal to start (otherwise, how would remote start, be it via FOB or APP work?)

Yes that’s how all auto trans vehicles work unless they have push button start

Our GTI will not start without pressing the brake, even though its automatic. For some reason, which i couldn’t even begin to explain, i really like that i dont have to do that in the Ranger.

In all my years of working on vehicles, I had never ran into one where I had to step on the brake and turn the key to get it started, until just the other day. A 2019 VW Atlas with a regular key. All push-to-start vehicles require you to put your foot on the brake then press the start button, but normal key vehicles should not. Stupid VW ?

Does the Lariat have remote start? I have the XLT - with the key - and I use the remote start feature quite a lot.

Lariat has push button start but the key fob does not have remote start. We can remote start using FordPass.

What? I must have misread this, or something.
I have a 2019 Lariat, with push button start, and can remote start it with my key fob, and FordPass.
Just FYI.

Maybe depends on Lariat package. Here is my key fob.

Ah, yea, I see that you're right.
My fob is different, with the 2X button.
Must be a different option, Sorry.
I didn't know that.
