But we needs facts Grumpaw. Not your opinion.

Better yet how about just a yes or no. Did Luke run premium? Or Not? Facts Grumpaw. Don't bother us with anything less.

Run the cheap stuff since I got it (87)
22-23 mpg in the winter, 23-25 in the summers.

Not asking for a scientific analysis, just a simple answer to a simple question: does YOUR mpg change between low and high octane gas. It's kinda like asking the university presidents whether calls for genocide are appropriate on their campus. The answer is not "it depends of the context," or in this case driving style, wind, hills, and highways. I'm glad you came around and provided your answer: YES.
I also have seen better performance and increased mpg by using 91 octane (Top Tier nearly all the time).

Even if with the question being: All things are equal, does high octane fuel make a difference? The answer of "it depends on context" is still a factual answer. All things equal, yes, I get better gas mileage and performance from high octane fuel when I drive to work. All things equal, no, I do not get better gas mileage when I am in town running errands around rush hour. This is not opinion. This is fact.
Glad you hear of your experience and your "yes" and "no" answers, but my original question applied to overall mileage as we all drive varied "context." If you ask me what color my dog is and I answer "it depends on what color I dye him" that is also a factual answer, but not what was asked. Whether one's mileage is improved when driving to work and not improved when running errands does not answer the basic simple question regarding overall milage.

Grumpaw's opinions are better than facts, especially when it comes to Rangers and towing!

I don't think I've ever lost a 10mm wrench.
If you really wanted to make a sacrifice, you would have offered a 10mm socket.

If you have read, you should know that I have indeed run the "experiment" with my own truck and have answered the question several times. To repeat, I do not have an increase in mpg with high octane fuel in my Tremor. Now, was that so hard?

Very aware. Was making a point. How much more input can you possibly need?

Once again, if you have read the post you quoted me on, I am not "needing" more input. In fact I want less input on things that are irrelevant to the original question.

Definitely time for the mods to lock this thread! The OP has admitted he has HIS answer and this thread has no use other than create controversy.

Although many folks here have discussed timing, programming, towing, driving style, air temperature, etc...a few have actually answered the original question of whether their mileage and performance increased with higher octane fuel. The answer appears to be neither improve significantly, and surely not enough to justify the added cost of premium gasoline.
Improved quite a bit (up to 3 mpg on some fills according to Fuelly app) in the 100F plus days especially at higher altitudes (3000+). And much more responsive. (I know...you don't care)
Temps consistently below 95F and/or lower altitudes...cheapest.

The additional mpg doesn’t offset the cost of premium. It depends a lot on if the driver is appreciative of the improvement in horsepower and torque. I removed the tune and ran 87 a couple of tanks. On my third fill up of premium now. Noticeable improvement in power but haven’t bothered checking mileage since winter blend fuel came into play during all of this.
