My 2 cents on the tacoma thing, had a 2020 tacoma 4x4 crew for a company rig.....POS, rode like a conestoga wagon, drank gas like a 460, horrible seats, cheap plastic interior, a symphony of rattles, on cold mornings trans hung on to 3rd like a long lost friend, 0-60 in 10 minutes, this is a new truck mind you, went back to toyota 3 times for pulling to the right so bad you couldn't take your hands off the wheel EVER..one day co worker borrowed, went over RR tracks at about 40 and the back window EXPLODED! Toyota quality? Haven't seen it, I was never happier than to unload that piece of crap for the 21 F150 they gave me and am still driving. My Ranger feels like a Rolls Royce in comparison to that toyota.

Additionally the V6 it was supposedly powered with honestly felt like a naturally aspirated 4 cyl., acceleration was best described as "leisurely".

Toyota is known for their V6 having the power of a 4 cylinder and the fuel economy of a V8.

Indeed, I don't remember the displacement of the V6, however I did question the salesperson during the test drive if indeed the vehicle was V6 powered, her response was "yes, isn't it wonderful"!

My candid response was "no, it's a slug"...

Indeed Toyota's are very popular in Hawaii, on Oahu in particular there is just one distributor for the brand, including Lexus.

That would be Servco Toyota/Lexus, they have monopolized the market since the marque was introduced in the USA.

As for Spam consumption, Guam actually surpasses Hawaii with per capita consumption, Hawaii is the highest consumer within the 50 states, however.

A good buddy of mine originally from Jacksonville, FL abhorred the canned meat, citing that it is made from the "ass****s and eyelids" from a hog...lol.

There is a very popular snack here called "Spam Musubi", it consists of cooked, sticky rice formed into a rectangular block with a fried piece of spam attached with a sheet of seaweed wrapped around or "nori" as we call it.

All the convenience stores, supermarkets and small restaurants here sell this local favorite, made fresh daily by the thousands...yes thousands.

That's right  , I remember reading that awhile back to show a co-worker lol. I was born and raised in Kailua, then left @ 26 after I went on active duty in the Army. I make SPAM Musubi just about every weekend, I add egg on mine though 🤙

I would take the Spam Musubi in a heartbeat over poutine...

I used to travel a lot, including internationally.

I would try most anything once.

The only real exception was when I was in Buenos Ares at a Brazilian steak house and they brought the blood sausage to the table.

Meat cooked in what looked like pale red Jello with a greasy consistency.

I said NOPE.

A couple years ago, Hawaiian Bros Island Grill opened a couple restaurants in my area.
The younger generations flocked to the restaurants to eat SPAM delicacies. It was funny to watch!

Depends on the year but either 3.0, 3.4, or 4.0.

My 65" flat screen has been fine for well over 15 years. As have my four 42" flat screen monitors, in fact none of my flat screen monitors ever have failed! I did need to replace the florescent backlight in a used 15 year IBM Thinkpad laptop, but it is still chugging along.

I am not a Luddite.

But I do expect engineering excellence. And that can't be found in modern Ford trucks. So I go back to what works and is most cost effective.

The world is going to change dramatically in the next 10 years. Best be prepared for the turmoil during the shift to the new (and different) reality.

One last thing. I love the quality of music that my analog turntable produces. It is superior to any digital music that I have. The sounds are warmer and realistic. I wouldn't have thought it possible before I picked up that quality 50+ year old turntable and rebuilt it.

All the old LPs that I have acquired needed was a deep cleaning to sound new. Amazing technology.

I am currently refurbishing a couple of 1970's era Technics audio components, paired with 2 Cerwin Vega speakers that will rattle the windows without distortion... well not much distortion. Those puppies were made for partying, designed to be LOUD.
We have a 23 year Samsung 55"...cost $5K new in 2003...I picked up a 65" 4K last year for under $400...and tons of free spyware, cameras, records everything you say and watch lol...

Assign the TV a static IP address and then block all outbound traffic from that IP at your firewall.

Intriguing...for dummies like me, how do I do this?

edit...like this?

To assign a static IP address to a smart TV, navigate to Settings > Network/Internet > Network Status/Setup, select the connection (Wi-Fi/Ethernet), and change IP settings from DHCP/Automatic to Static or Manual. Manually enter a unique IP address (e.g., 192.168.1.50), Subnet Mask (usually 255.255.255.0), and Gateway (router IP, e.g., 192.168.1.1).

It depends on your router, but it's usually pretty easy to create a Block rule for outbound traffic.

Here's a quick AI synopsis for blocking.

Block your TV at the firewall by logging into your router, identifying the TV’s IP address, and creating an outbound firewall rule to deny access to internet IP addresses. For maximum restriction, use a whitelist-only approach, allowing only necessary streaming services.

Steps to Block TV at Router Firewall:
  • Assign Static IP: In your router settings, ensure your TV has a permanent (static) IP address so the block rule doesn't fail if the IP changes. This can also work with a reserved DHCP address.
  • Create Outbound Rule: Access your router's Firewall/Parental Control section and create a rule to "Block" or "Deny" all outbound traffic for that specific IP.
  • Block Domains/Ads: Instead of blocking all internet access (which stops smart features), you can block specific tracking/ad domains, such as ads.samsung.com.
  • Use DNS Filtering: Use services like NextDNS or Control D to apply prebuilt filters specifically designed to block Smart TV telemetry.
  • Alternative Methods: You can disable smart features in the TV settings, or use "Hospitality Mode" to limit the TV to specific inputs.
PM me your router model if you want more detailed info.

First off, MAHALO so very much for your service to our country, it is because of outstanding folks such as you that we may enjoy the freedoms we all take for granted.

Apologies for the drawn out dissertation on spam musubi, I had no idea that I was talking to a local boy!

I did some research on spam musubi production in Hawaii, L & L Drive Inn's claim that they sell 15K of them daily, that's a whole lotta rice, nori and spam!

I also enjoy "tamago" on my Spam musubi, when I find the patience to fry the eggs...

Mahalo again Morgan!
