I have wondered a lot about a tune extending transmission life. I tuned my 2020 Ranger at 5k miles. I use the livernois Tow/Haul tune 90% of the time. I’m currently at 106k miles. So far I have had no transmission issues or really any issues. I tow my boat frequently year around. I made 2 trips towing it to Florida. At around 80-85k miles I serviced the transmission myself and added LubeGuard Platinum. Hopefully it has no issues in the future. But I would lie if I said a transmission failure in the future is not on my mind lol.
I pretty much agree entirely. I also run the Livernois tune and am approaching 78k. Not a single mechanical issue at all with Oppie, but can't help but look at Raptors.

I actually purchased the Livernois tune in the last few months, but haven't gotten around to installing it yet. I bought it precisely for the purpose of extending the life of the transmission.

It is in the installation queue.

The Raptors are tempting for sure! Even a tuned 2.7 Ranger would be awesome!

Take the 10min to install it! It’s a game changer. I went back to stock a couple years ago just to see the difference. I reinstalled the tune after 15 miles lol. Having a tune and not installing it is like having a winning lottery ticket and not cashing it😂

The truck in on a lift, with the front grill and radiator baffles removed, and a transmission cooler under construction, to be installed and tested. Once that work is done I'll install the tune.

I've been told by Livernois support I need to remove all the Forscan changes that I've made before applying the tune. I've still got to do that as well. Seems to me to not really be necessary, but I will follow their instructions.

I long ago learned to change one thing at a time. Test and validate results. When satisfied with the results move on to the next task.

No tune - symptoms were always there but got bad at 28k miles, rebuilt at 36k. They did not replace cdf drum and it already is showing symptoms again @ 42k.

If the tune extended the life of my transmission then I kinda wish I didnt tune it. Would have been better to go out during the warranty.
I can't agree with you on that. If the tune prolongs failure then it gives you the time to save for an aftermarket rebuild thats built to a higher standard. If your plans are to keep the truck then this would be optimal. It also allows you a better option as it most likely won't fail again as the factory rebuild will. Just my thought on it.

Lol I did the same thing but I only lasted about 3 miles. When gas shot up to over $5.00/gallon for premium back in ’22 I flashed backed to the stock tune in my garage and headed to the gas station. By the time I hit the parking lot I hated driving it and flashed it back to the 91-93 Performance tune and never looked back. The extra money spent on gas was well worth every SPG…....Smiles Per Gallon 😁

Mine was stock when the transmission failed.

It was rebuilt at 36k though I was having issues as early as 23k.

WAY too many trips to the dealer with No Problem Found results.

It is theorized that a tuned vehicle will have better luck with the transmission due to better shifting logic.

The stock Ford logic is pretty terrible, trying to get into a high gear ASAP to maximize MPG while lugging the engine.

Right now my truck has the Livernois 87-89 tune on it and the shifting is MUCH better.

I didn't add the tune to up performance.

I added it for 2 reasons:

1. Transmission shifting

2. Remove the ASS BS.
There is nothing I hate more than to leave my Ranger at the dealer for a week or more and then they tell me no problem found. Thankfully, I have not had any transmission issues yet, but I do have a HVAC actuator issue. Of course, dealer says no problem found yet it is clicking away. I figure I will wait for the actuator to completely fail before I take it back in for that repair.

You are making a valid point for me to drop $600 on a Livernois tune. I hate the ASS. I really do not need better performance from the truck, but I guess I wouldn't mind it.

Stop it with this tune talk! You guys are killing me and are going to make my wife really mad when she sees the bill.

For the HVAC issue, I ended up taking a video of my vents set to 70 degrees and 72 degree air coming out of the driver side and 120 degree air coming out of the passenger side.

I provided the video when I dropped it off and they amazingly found it after numerous No Problem Found events.

My truck seems to be mostly fixed now (still shifts like crap sometimes) and I am glad that Ford finally stepped up.

However, the weeping and gnashing of teeth that was required to get Ford to step up has soured me on any Ford products in the future.

If it doesn't come with a Lifetime Powertrain Warranty, I won't even consider another Ford.

I have more days behind me than in front of me and I don't care to spend them worrying about my truck breaking due to a designed-in flaw.

Exactly why I continue to pay whatever the price of 89 happens to be. When the truck is happy, the driver is happy lol.
Because ROADKILL 😉

My wife will be really mad when and if pull in the driveway with a new Raptor. But it's my money. I just can't stand her telling me I can't afford it. It would be a cash purchase with trade.
