how do you like the new ride?
It's good. Engine is an absolute dog and going up in the Arizona Mountains and Hills the transmission sarts hunting for gears like its looking for the Donner Party but otherwise I do like it a little better than the Ranger. Suspension off road is amazing. Storage inside is fantastic. Upgrades and mods to customize it are super easy. This thing snaps together like a set of legos in the cab. I think there's like 12 bolts in the whole interior and they are holding seats and seat belts in.

Not thread jacking this one so I'll do a side by side review when I have more miles on it.

You traded in a transmission that might be bad one day for one that IS bad everyday ? And the whole rig is slower??? AND YOU PAID THEM ???????

I kid , i kid , That transmission is the reason i will trade mine , not because i fear it will fail and cost me , but because its embarrassingly clunky and horrible at its job , but not all the time , which IS WORSE , imo...

Question for the OP, did the dealer tell you what specifically went bad with the transmission? Some of the past cases seemed to be the CDF drum. If that's the case for all these failures, there's no amount of preventative maintenance or TSB that's going to prevent the issue from occuring, only luck.

Seeing more and more of these transmission threads certainly makes my ears perk up. I’m currently just under 52k miles and I do have a tendency to off-road in areas with little to no cell service. Plus I have a trip planned to Overland Expo East in Virginia in October(driving from S.Florida) as well as planning on maybe attending Expo PNW next year in Redmond.

It’s really making me consider throwing some money at AAA Roadside Service. I should’ve considered it already with all the trips I take out of state, but now it may be a requirement.

Have there been any other transmission failures besides 2019 Rangers? I have 60k on my truck and the trans is very smooth.
This right here, I mean, have there been any changes on '20+ Rangers to improve tranny life? I have just over 35k on my '21 and it's been performing very well. Also, anybody with a tune have similar tranny failures?

you may already be aware but most roadside assistance services will not go further than road sides. so if you are broke down off road you are on your own except for recovery services.

Oh trust me that I know. Especially those times I’ve been the lone vehicle on the trail, I’ve been very careful as to what I do, or where I go. A failure of the transmission or any major part would be a big problem. I meant more in the sense for when I am on the road to the places I go to. Being in South Florida, I frequent north Georgia/North Carolina/Virginia. On top of being on the road sometimes for 12-14 hours, I’m sometimes in areas where the local Ford dealer may not be around the corner.

Maybe it’s all that extra weight (tie-downs, engine covers, glovebox dampers, and such).

I kid but when I was heading back up to the cottage yesterday, I pulled out to pass a slower vehicle, just as I had done a couple of times earlier in the drive, and nothin, wouldn’t downshift or accelerate, just bogged down and sat there. Tucked back into my lane, pressed the shifter button to bring the gears up on the display so I could keep an eye on things. All seemed fine and a few minutes later, I tried it again - took off like a shot and rocketed past the slow car - just like every other time.

I’m hoping it was an anomaly, but these stories have me watching for warning signs and thanking my stars I have an extended warranty.

I don't know....I think we tend to forget that "shit happens". The Ranger owners on this forum probaly represent under 5% of all Ranger owners....and where do people come to complain and freak everyone else out? Here!

I get it, it sucks!! No doubt, but things do break. My son is a GM tech and he tells me stories on a regular basis of new vehicle issues. Mass produced parts in a mass produced vehicle with low bidders getting some parts contracts....shit happens!

True, and that's less the 0.1% of all 10R80 transmissions on the road since 2017.
The new 10R60 in the 6G Rangers won't fare any better, or might be worse since it's a newer design.

All this has me thinking I might avoid a tune on mine since i did get the extended warranty, despite the sales guy saying that a tune shouldn't effect things (yeah right). I love my truck but its really frustrating knowing that the transmission is the weakest link... I might consider trading mine in next year to get something that I don't have to stress about... Annoyingly that might be a Toyota given the prices of F-150's are just freaking stupid these days... But who knows, I might just accept that a built transmission might be in my future too.

FYI...Tuned by Unleashed since about 5,000 miles on my 2019 Lariat. Now have 66,000 trouble free miles on it. Well the HVAC blend door brokw but no engine or transmission issues.
