I asked the same thing in another thread. While there are a lot of issues, there are a lot of guys that are not having issues. My 2021 Tremor has 42k miles and has no issues. I did however purchase a fitz stick, and am going to go ahead and service my transmission now, just to be on the safe side.

Ford replaced my transmission in my 2022 Tremor with just under 18000 miles on it. Had subtle shift issues and they followed the steps of TSB 24-2101 which led to eventually replacing the transmission. Never had any major problems with it and could have kept driving it. Because of the truck being low mileage and time Ford allowed the transmission to be replaced with a new one that has all the updates. Easy, smooth process and it’s performing flawlessly.

If it were me, and I planned on keeping the truck long term I would do a couple things.

1. Buy the longest extended warranty I can get my hands on from Ford (Plenty of dealers out there selling them at a discount.

2. Service the transmission early and often and add Lubegard to keep the valve body in good shape.

That will give you the best shot at not having problems.

Remember, the people who don't have issues have no need to post about it. Some do, you never know. I got a Mishimoto deep pan with a drain plug and a Fitz Stick. Currently at 16K miles and plan on fluid and filter soon. The old "ounce of prevention" thing. Instead of a warranty I put $$ away in a dedicated savings account. If I never need it, I will have a good chunk of change for a new toy. :)

It's hit or miss. I bought mine at the end of March 2019, so early production. Bought ext war. Had the HVAC issue after 2yrs and dealer replaced. Had trans flashed at 16k. I have been very satisfied after 52k miles. I am a pavement pounder with no off road driving. I do haul bricks, lumber, sod, or whatever is needed. I start out slow when trans is cold as they don't work well until fluid is warmed up. 2019 XLT FX4.
A friend of mine bought exact same truck (except for color) from the same dealer, in October of 2019. At about 17k miles his trans went. He is a pavement pounder but loves mashing the accelerator at every stoplight. He had his trans rebuilt/replaced by Ford under warranty and now has 50k flawless miles. He never had the HVAC issue I had.
I will have my trans serviced at the dealer again at 60k. Is the trans going on my mind, always. But I know far more people with F150's, rangers, explorers, and other fords who have never had trans issues and some are avid off road hunters who drive on many backroads in 4whl or with diff locked
As I said, I think its hit or miss...all I can do is ?

My concern is.....just bought a 2020 lariat fx4 40k miles, and the tranny is super smooth. Did the ford performance tune and to my surprise it's even better....that said do I do a tranny flush sooner than later for no good measure or am I just opening a can of worms for no reason? Power train is up in August so I'm thinking of doing it before then and before I purchase an extended.

This FTW!

I'm planning the same - the Fitz Stick, the aluminum pan with drain plug (but the smaller one that only adds 3/4 quart more, I think), and LubeGard.

It is never a bad idea to have fresh fluid in the trans. Any trans for that matter.

I keep seeing LubeGard talked about but have never trusted "magic potions" that don't do much or makes things worse. Considering it though. A long time ago, a friend built a street/strip car (Mustang II with a 302 before Ford did) and used B&M tranny fluid in it. When the tranny puked in a few weeks, he took it back to the shop that built it. As soon as they saw the blue fluid, they knew what was wrong. B&M added blue dye to regular Ford ATF and doubled the price. It was an upgrade for other makes, not for Fords. The dye caused the issues. Left an impression. I have never seen any complaints about LubeGard, just good, so I am considering it.

I just got my transmission replaced on my 19 Ranger at 88k miles. Most will probably not have issues with proper care, but do you have $7,100 to repair it if it fails? I was glad that I bought the extended warranty to have something in case I had issues since I bought it used at 77k. I do know that Ford updated some of the parts that are known to fail to prevent this issue from happening but do not know when those changes took affect.

I agree, in general. We shouldn't have to do anything to keep our valve bodies moving properly, but they need the help.

FWIW LG is one of the only additive companies I trust. They make pretty good products. I'm a big fan of their 'Honda' Power steering fluid as well. Works great in my two J-Series cars.

Pretty much the same here. If I start having the tell-tale symptoms, either I have the dealer slap a new one in, go to a reputable 3rd party shop, or better yet, just trade it in on a new Ranger.
